Jamison Dale(sr) of Jones with about 200 yards to go on the anchor leg of the record breaking 7:54.80.
Jones College Prep broke the CPS meet record in the 4x800 meter by running a 7:54.80. The previous record was 8:02.5 set by Lane Tech in 1978. Jamison Dale, one of the top distance runners in the state, anchored the relay team to victory. He has never ran a 4x800 outdoors for Jones this outdoor season. While I do not have his exact split, I estimated it to be about 1:55-1:56.

Jones was pushed by a frantic early pace led by Joshua Warren(sr) of Whitney Young who gave Whitney Young the lead after the first exchange by running around 1:58. Lane veteran A teamer Oswaldo Lorenzano(sr) and Steinmetz' Alexis Sarabia(jr) also pushed the early pace. Benjamin Boswell(so) of Jones ran the first leg for Jones.
I felt the entire field ran great times.Whitney Young ran an 8:04.48- which by itself was close to the record. Lane ran an 8:09.58 without top 800 meter runners Marcelo Burbano(sr) or Pavlo Hutsalyuk(so). Northside ran 8:33.05. Steinmetz ran 8:36.66. That time is the fastest time I ever heard of Steinmetz running and it could be a modern era school record or close to it. Lincoln Park, Taft, Kennedy all ran season best 4x800's. Taft's 8:47.08 was unthinkable for Taft just a year ago.
The amazing time for Jones - one of the top if not top times - in the state this year sends a message to the state that Jones could be a serious threat at the state meet in the 4x800. I say could be because, it depned on what lineup they stack up there at the state meet. It is a different team if they run Dale on it or not.
