Jamison Dale(sr) of Jones with about 200 yards to go on the anchor leg of the record breaking 7:54.80.
Jones College Prep broke the CPS meet record in the 4x800 meter by running a 7:54.80. The previous record was 8:02.5 set by Lane Tech in 1978. Jamison Dale, one of the top distance runners in the state, anchored the relay team to victory. He has never ran a 4x800 outdoors for Jones this outdoor season. While I do not have his exact split, I estimated it to be about 1:55-1:56.
Jones was pushed by a frantic early pace led by Joshua Warren(sr) of Whitney Young who gave Whitney Young the lead after the first exchange by running around 1:58. Lane veteran A teamer Oswaldo Lorenzano(sr) and Steinmetz' Alexis Sarabia(jr) also pushed the early pace. Benjamin Boswell(so) of Jones ran the first leg for Jones.
I felt the entire field ran great times.Whitney Young ran an 8:04.48- which by itself was close to the record. Lane ran an 8:09.58 without top 800 meter runners Marcelo Burbano(sr) or Pavlo Hutsalyuk(so). Northside ran 8:33.05. Steinmetz ran 8:36.66. That time is the fastest time I ever heard of Steinmetz running and it could be a modern era school record or close to it. Lincoln Park, Taft, Kennedy all ran season best 4x800's. Taft's 8:47.08 was unthinkable for Taft just a year ago.
The amazing time for Jones - one of the top if not top times - in the state this year sends a message to the state that Jones could be a serious threat at the state meet in the 4x800. I say could be because, it depned on what lineup they stack up there at the state meet. It is a different team if they run Dale on it or not.
Lane freshman run an 8:48 in the 4x800 at Hinsdale South Relays
Lane ran an 8:48 at the frosh-soph 4x800 relay at Hinsdale South Relay. That is the fastest frosh-soph 4x800 outdoor time I can remember. Since I've been taking Leaderboard marks for the CPS in 2009, the closest frosh-soph 4x800 outdoor mark was Kenwood's 8:52.30 at the 2009 frosh-soph city meet.
An 8:48 averages to about a 2:12 per person. Leadoff leg Pavlo Hutsalyuk(fr) ran a 2:09 to lead the Indians. Hustalyk is what you call a Hybrid runner. He is not a pure sprinter or a pur distance runner. He has personal season best marks of 61.1 in the 400 and 5:02.8 in the 1600 meter.
What made this mark even more amazing was that the race was run by all freshman. There were no sophomores running the race. The team consisted of Pavlo Hutsalyuk(fr-2:09), Christian Badillo(fr- 2:10.9), Andrew Figueroa(fr-2:12.4), and Zac Prybyl(fr- 2:15.22).
