Pritzker's Kevin Tello helped Pritzker to yet another undefeated season and yet another conference title. Pritzker has not lost a game in a couple years. Regardless of what you think about Pritzker staying in the Inter-City conference, this is a program that has found a way to stay competitively high among schools of similar size and situation. Congrats to Kevin Tello for being named by the fans as Inter-City Conference Player of the year.

 

3-0 Teams

Pritzker College Prep has one of the state's longest winning streaks. They have won 22 straight games in the state playoff inelgible Inter-City Conference.

Austin is one of 4 undefeated teams in the Chicago Conference. With a win already over North Lawndale in conference play, Austin seems poised to make a solid run in winning conference with games still to play (pending the strike) against Lake View and undefeated Sullivan. Payton is 3-0 but their opponents combined record is 1-8. We'll know more about Payton when (if?) they play the Bulls and Westinghouse. Taft is 3-0 but the combined records of their opponents is 0-9.

Harper and Marshall are undefeated and look very strong. Those teams are itching for the strike to end. Marshall and Harper are scheduled to play a conference game against each other. Brooks is also in their conference. Whitney Young is 3-0, but did not look the strongest in their win against Hope.

This is the last week of the regular season. For those in the Inter-City conference and for the non-state qualifying teams this is the last game of the season.

Today pits a couple of rare Tuesday games.

The highlight will be Pritzker vs Rowe-Clark. This game will determine the conference title. Pritzker is undefeated this year and undefeated last year, so go into this game with a 17 game winning streak - the longest in the state. Even though won the Inter-City 2 conference last year, Pritzker chose to decline the invitation to be moved up to the Chicago conference. Pritzker wanted to play an all Noble Street Charter conference schedule. Although they are undefeated, Noble Street has had a couple close games. So, Rowe-Clark, second place behind Pritzker with a 4-1 conference record has a chance in this game. Rowe-Clark has a couple playmakers in Brandon Taylor and Dantrell Thomas.

Corliss plays Golder today in a non-conference game. Look for Corliss to win in this game. But more important than winning is evaluating talent and preparing for next year. Corliss is one of those schools that should be playing in the Chicago conference. They got sent down to the Inter-City this year but was unfortunate enough to be placed in the Inter-City 2 with juggernaut North Lawndale. Fortunately for Corliss, they won't be facing North Lawndale next year as North Lawndale will be playing in the Chicago conference.

My How the Unbeatens Have Fallen

Robeson, King, Sullivan, Marshall all suffer first loss of season.

There is only one unbeaten left in the CPS....you'll never guess who it is.

King came into their game vs Julian confident as they had a 5-0 record. Apparently, Julian did not care about their record, because Julian beat King.

This morning, it was already a crazy last couple of days as previously undefeated King lost to Julian and then previously unbeaten Robeson lost to Morgan Park. So stunning were those two losses that I made a poll this morning and asked everyone which upset was the most stunning. I could have waited until the end of the day to make the poll, but I thought for sure that most of today's games were a sure thing. Boy was I wrong.  I just found out that previously unbeaten Sullivan lost to Marine Military 16-0 and Marshall lost to Calumet 24-22.

I bet you can't guess who the last unbeaten is in the CPS? PRITZKER! That's right Pritzker from the Inter-City 3 conference. Pritzker is 5-0, and is a heavy favorite to be 6-0 as they play winless Tilden tomorrow (Sunday) at Lane. Pritzker has a 14 game winning streak. They were undefeated last season and has not lost since the Fall 2009 season. Pritzker plays in the Inter-City conference and actually won the Inter-City 3 conference last year when they finished ahead of Westinghouse. But Pritzker declined the option of moving up to the Chicago Conference so they could stay in the Inter-City conference to play mostly a Noble-Street Charter school schedule.
