Lane comes from behind to take Bogan 33-24
Lane Tech lost an early lead to Bogan High School, but came from behind to take a 33-24 win Friday night at Lane Stadium.
Lane scored first in the non-conference game, picking up a bad Bogan
punt to position itself on the Bogan 12 yard line. Frederick Williams
scored a touchdown on the next play.
Williams, with 20 yards, and Ro Bonner, 15 yards, led a 63 yard drive early in the second quarter to give Lane a 14-0 lead on the Bogan Bengals.
Bogan came back however, recovering a Lane fumble. Then behind Russell Williams and Omar McCormick, who each ran 23 yards in the drive, driving 41 yards. A Denzel Nelson interception put Bogan into the lead 16-14.
Lane came back, behind a 41 yard return by Bonner, a 20 yard run by Williams and a 12 yard run by Teslim Salami in a four play, 51 yard drive to take the lead back, 20-16.
The wild half was not yet done, however, as a Bengal return set the team up on the Lane 42 yard line. A five play drive put Bogan ahead 24-20 at the half.
A fourth quarter interception by Lane resulted in a 36 yard touchdown return, giving Lane a 27-24 lead. Bogan turned over the ball on downs, each team having three turnovers on downs, and Lane was able to put together a final 37 yard drive for a 33-24 score with just 1:35 remaining in the game.
While the Bogan team gathered on the field and had a recrimination over the loss, with the Bogan head coach promising sprints, Lane celebrated.
“I’m sure we rushed for a lot of yards,” Head Coach Fred Proesel told the Bulldog. Proesel said the team would be working on cutting fumbles, noting disappointment in the four Indian fumbles during the match.
“It wasn’t a must-win, but we definitely needed to gain momentum,” Bengal Head Coach Sam Jones told the Bulldog. “We’re trying to get these guys to come together.”
Bogan is now 0-3 in the Illini Prairie State Conference. Lane improved to 2-1 overall. It faces Curie (1-2) in a big home conference game Friday, 7P, at Lane Stadium.
