Marcelo Burbano(jr) of Lane Tech ran a 15:06 but was not on the official results due to a chip error. Race officials were made aware of this and will mail him his medal. With his score, Lane would have finished in 14th. Burbano was one of one of 5 Lane Tech Indians (including the frosh-soph race) who ran 16:08 or better. This performance for Lane has to put them as the top CPS team right now. Sophomore Jonathan Vara(so) ran a 16:08 in the frosh-soph race. Vara is dropping his time like wildfire every single race. At this rate, I'm not sure how much longer they can keep Vara at the frosh-soph level. Lane has the depth and luxury to be able to do so.
Speaking of depth, Lane's 6th fastest time of the day was Mansur Soleman(jr) who ran a 16:19. Lane has 6 runners who has run below a 16:19. With this kind of production, if any CPS team can beat that then top their hats to em.
This Fall 2011 team has the making of becoming the fastest Lane Tech cross country team since the 1970's or even before that. The 1963 Lane Tech team is the only CPS cross country team to win state. I'm not saying that this year's team should be compared to the 1963 team, I am saying that the cross country program at Lane is becoming seriously better and heading towards the glory days.
It is not only happening at Lane. There seems to be a whole wave of improvement at the top of the CPS. Jones, Mather, and Whitney Young are having monster seasons as well. Not to mention, Lincoln Park ran pretty well in this race with 5 runners running 17:38 or better- 2 of which are sophomores.
