Ace pitcher Jack McLaughlin(sr) pitched a complete game 4 hit 8 strikeout performance in a 5-3 Lane Tech win over Harlan. Lane Tech plays Simeon next in the semi-finals Friday. That is a rematch of last years title game won by Simeon.
Quarterfinals Simeon 7 Washington 2 Lane Tech 5 Harlan 3
The IHSA forfeited Harlan's wins this season. I am hearing reports that the IHSA found out that Harlan used at least one ineligible player during its games this season. Thus its previously ruled wins against King, Julian, and Westighouse were overturned and declared a forfeit win by the other team.
Harlan's record is now officially 0-7. Harlan does play Fenger this Friday. Fenger is also winless. I am assuming Harlan can play this game (minus the ineligible players). If that is the case the winner of that game will stay out of last place in conference and thus prevent getting demoted down to the Chicago Conference.

Game of the day: Brooks (0-1) vs Kenwood(1-0) 4:15pm, Eckersall Stadium What a match up. Brooks has been the talk of the state after their near upset of 2011 state semi-finalist Kaneland. In that game Brooks led 24-6 in the 3rd quarter before finally falling 25-24. 2012 was the year that Brooks fans have been talking about for years. I wrote an article two years ago to look out for Brooks in 2 years. Brooks has 4 year starting quarterback Ahmad Bradshaw(sr), massive lineman Dequan Sain(sr, OL, 6-7), Khalil Simmons(sr, S), and running backs Cleveland Clark and Josh Smith.
Meanwhile, Kenwood is an equally story of its own. I started the season with almost no pre-season expectations for Kenwood because they graduated so much talent from last year. But after their 30-24 upset over suburban TF North, my eyes quickly opened on Kenwood.
My feel is that Brooks will have too much for Kenwood and they won't make as many mistakes as TF North. But if Kenwood happens to spring an upset, the talk will immediately turn from Brooks to Kenwood.
Westinghouse(0-1) vs Harlan(0-1) Any time a mid-level Chicago conference team plays an upper level Illini conference team, the Chicago Conference team always has a bit of chip on their shoulder. In this case Westinghouse is a team itching to say they belong in the Illini conference. The best way for Westinghouse to prove they belong is to actually beat an Illini conference team. They'll have their opportunity against Harlan.
Westinghouse has the talent to be able to run with Harlan. They have 6-5 quarterback Eugenio Dejesus(sr), talented running back James Graham(sr), and lineman Dequan Smith(sr, 6-4, 265lbs). All of them are pre-season Chicago conference players.
Harlan is led by Division 1 College recruit Kijana Evans(6-3, 290lbs, sr, OL).
Both teams are looking for their first win after good efforts in week 1 losses to suburban teams.
Offensive line prospect Kijana Evans(jr) of Harlan committed to Western Michigan University. The 6-4, 290lb junior also had offers from Eastern Michigan,Western Kentucky Toledo, Illinois St, and a late offer from Indiana University.
"I really like the coaches and I feel at home," said Evans on why he picked Western Michigan.
Ranked #14 Out of ALL Lineman Now Remember That It was 938 people
40-Yard Dash 5.8 (5th Percentile of lineman)
Vert- 20.4 (6th percentile of lineman)
Shuttle 5.55 (3rd Percentile) My card Said 4.55 and I know that’s what I ran but hey im not complaining because if it doesn't show on the field it means nothing.
Power Ball (35.0) (89 Percentile)
The reason my power ball was low- the coach told me I could’ve threw it further if I used my hips but I couldn’t get the technique right. Coach said I have good strength because I threw it 35 just off arm strength if I would have used more technique I could've threw it 40 or higher.

Brooks and King. I got a chance to speak with Ahmad Bradshaw(jr, QB) of Brooks. Bradshaw sprints and high jumps for the emerging Brooks track team. He is also a 3 year quarterback starter for the Brooks football team. He told me to look out for Brooks next year. Brooks finished 2nd to Harper in the Illini-Heartland conference. Brooks opens the Fall 2012 season against Illini-Land of Lincoln runner up King College Prep. Brooks will try to get back at King after King beat Brooks 18-17 in the city playoffs last season.
update: Brooks will be open vs Kaneland not King.
Harlan. "We open with Richards in week 1, then we play Westinghouse in week 2," said Harlan's Kijana Evans(jr, OL). Harlan is coming off an uncharacteristic 2-7 season. The Falcolns were hurt by heavy loss to graduation and growing pains from a young team. They did come up with big wins over Clark and Raby- which prevented Harlan from moving down to the Chicago conference. Expectations are higher for Harlan this year as the youth is now a year more experienced.
