Agriculture Science Shocks by Winning City Girls Bowling Title

Chicago Agriculture Science, is tucked away in the far south side of Chicago on 111th street. Sports is usually not the first word when you think of Agriculture Science. But yesterday at Blue Bird Lanes, Agriculture Science, shocked the city bowling community when they won the City Championship in girls bowling. Deena Walls led Agriculture Science by scoring a city-wide  high game of 236 and city-wide high series of 236. Walls helped boosted their team score from 2,091 at city sectionals to a vast improvement of 2,461 points at the city finals.

The second place team, Brooks was also a surprise. People knew Brooks was good after they won the city south sectionals, but few people thought at the beginning of the year that they were capable of winning city. Instead, on this day, Brooks and Agriculture Science shined by taking the top two spots.

Defending city champion Lane finished in 3rd place with 2,368 points and perennial bowling power Morgan Park finished a distant 4th.

Congratulations to Agriculture Science in winning a rare city championship. A city championship is so rare for Agriculture Science that this city championship is the first or one of the first city championships Agriculture Science has won in any sport since the school opened in 1985.

Brooks, Lane, Morgan Park expected to challenge for city girls bowling title

Lane and Morgan Park were expected to be the top two challengers for this year's girls bowling city championship. You can now add Brooks to the mix.

Brooks defeated Morgan Park yesterday in the Public League girls southside sectional championship. No team has been as dominant this decade as Morgan Park in girls city bowling. But last year, Lane beat Morgan Park for the city title. Morgan Park was expected to bounce back this year, but it appears that in addition to Lane, Brooks is now a challenger.

Highlights of 2008 - Lane Tech's 100th Anniversary - Part 1

2008 was a year of celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Lane Tech. These senior girls are privileged to be part of the senior class of 2008. This picture was taken before the 2008 Homecoming football game.


The last days of 2008 are approaching. 2008 was a special year for Lane Tech as 2008 was the 100th Anniversary of this great Chicago Institution. In this series of posts, Lane Tech Fan takes looks back at 2008 and reflects on just some of the highlights that continues to make Lane Tech the school of champions.

#10 - Lane Tech Girls Bowling Team Stops Morgan Park

Stephanie Huber, shown here in her girls softball uniform was part of the 2008 Lane Tech girls bowling team that stopped the Morgan Park Girls Bowling juggernaut.

When it same to girls bowling in the Public League, there was no bigger name than Morgan Park. After all Morgan Park girls bowling team had won every single city championship since 2002. But Lane Tech girls team in 2008 stopped their streaked when Lane finally stopped the Morgan Park streak. Lane tech was led by individual city champion Gemise Jackson (sr). Lane's girls bowling success did not stop at city as Lane Tech qualified for state and finished 22nd in the state.

For most of Lane's history, Lane Tech was an all boys school, before girls were admitted in the 1970's. Since then Lane's girls has performed just as well as the boys teams.

Lane Tech girl's bowling team finishes 22nd at state

The Lane Tech girls bowling team finished their season with a 22nd place state team finish at the state tournement. This was the first state appearance by Lane in girls bowling since 2000 and capped off a great season in which they also captured the city title. Below are Lane's individual results:

Morgan Park Busters: Lane Tech Girls Bowling Team Claims 2nd straight city crown over bowling giant Morgan Park

Stephanie Huber (sr), who also plays on the girls softball team helped Lane Tech win it's second straight girls bowling city championship and first state tournament appearance since 2002.

Prior to last year, Morgan Park completely dominated girls bowling in the Public League. After all, Morgan Park had won every girls bowling city championship since at least 2002. However, that all changed last year when Lane Tech girl's bowling team captured the city title and Morgan Park finished a shocking fourth. So this year, Morgan Park was looking to regain the the title. However, the script did not work for Morgan Park as Lane Tech rolled over the Mustangs of Morgan Park and the rest of the Public League to take their second straight Public League title.

Lane Tech was led by senior Gemise Jackson who took the individual city title with a high series of 640.

Lane Tech will participate next at this weekend girls bowling state tournament at Cherry Bowl Lanes in Rockford. This is Lane's first state tournament since 2002.

Girls Bowling Team Advances to State Tournament

Stephanie Huber (sr), who has been in a bowling league since she was 8 years old, helped Lane to it's first state tournament appearance in girls bowling since 2000.

The Lane Tech girls bowling team captured the St. Ignatius Girls Bowling Sectional. Lane Tech scored 5020 points over 2nd place Whitney Young 4591 points in the 10 team field. Both teams will advance to the state tournament on Feb 8-9 at Rockford's Cherry Bowl Lane's.

Lane was led by it's senior triumvirate of Lidia Berrios (1079 pins), Gemise Jackson (1068 pins), and Stephanie Huber (997 pins).

Lane Tech and Whitney Young are this year's only two teams from the Public League to advance to the state tournament. Lane will face a serious challenge and next week's tournament filled with the top teams in the state. Likely contenders for the girls state bowling championship will be Jefferson and Auburn from Rockford.

Congrats to the girls bowling team, led by coach Brian Hofman, in leading the girls bowling team to it's first state tournament appearance since 2000.

Girls Bowling Team aim to win city and make it to state

Lake View's girls bowling team will be going for a top 3 city finish in the upcoming girls city bowling city championship.

Bowling Notes

*The boys bowling team season is over. They finished their season last week with a 3rd place finish in the city behind champion Morgan Park and runner up Taft. They also finished third in state sectionals and just missed advancing to state by one place.

* The girls bowling team won the North Divsion Public League playoffs over 2nd place Taft and 3rd place Clemente.

* The girls bowling team has a shot a qualifying for the state meet at this weekends state bowling sectionals. They are in probably one of the easiest sectionals in the state in the St. Ignaitius Sectional/ The girls bowling team is trying to qualify for state for the first time since 2002.

* The Public League beat the Catholic League in the "Catholic Leauge vs Public League city cahmpionship"
