I see it's the battle of who plays the biggest pre-season 'pooch' games between Mather and Taft. Both schools are well know for pumping up their schedules with weak games.
This year, Mather will open with Chicago Academy (a school half their size) and South Shore (a team that's the CPS equivalent to Prairie View A&M, meaning they don't win too much). So, that gives Mather a 2-0 start. if Mather was as good as their coaches thought they were, they would be stomping Maine South in state every year. Though, Mather's coaching staff probably couldn't spell Rangers if you spotted them R-A-N-G-E-R.
Taft opens with Manley and Clark (a team which lost more seniors than a nursing home). So, this should put Taft at 2-0 entering conference play against Prosser. And that game will pit two coaches with the biggest egos in CPS football. Taft should slaughter Prosser (a team where football is only a way for gangabngers to avoid the police). Taft will open 3-0 and vie for another state game, which they'll get slaughtered in, buy 4X State qualifier t-shirts, and refuse another move up to the Illini conference.

don't know what you see in taft but they might be 0-2 to start conference

Gonna be a long year for Lane....

what else is new?..lane football has been garbage for 3 years and running, make that four years after this season
Posted by: same old news | July 21, 2012 at 07:55 PM
CPS football is good for the talented kids they have who will play college, but the program will never win state. They will also lose the Prep Bowl every year. What have they lost 7-8 in a row? Just telling it like it is. Sorry.
Posted by: Catholic Blue | July 21, 2012 at 08:18 PM
With a ton of seniors last year, Taft lost to Clark by like 20 points.... Don't know much about Manley. I hear taft graduated a bunch of guys and might not be any good either.
I'm not going to pretend to know anything about the coaches and their egos.

As long as Taft keeps employing the Nishibiyishi family (Nick, father, and two sons, Brett and Chad) in the football program and as PE teachers, Taft is just going to more worried about nepotism than producing a good product on the field and on the court.
What message does it send to other Taft employees and students when you hire your sons and not the best candidate? This is all Nick's fault and he should be ashamed of himself. Doesn't the Japanese culture have any shame anymore?
Everyone could see one son working at Taft in the PE department with the father. But, two sons??? That's just fucking greedy and the Nishis know it.
if you think about, city taxpayers are paying the three Nishis $200K+ to have their family affair at Taft. For what? No state or city championships. No scholarships for athletes, financial aid doesn't count. A PE teacher in Nick that just rolls out the balls, has prison yard gym classes, and is only responsible for four classes a day, all four being elective gym classes for lazy students who either sit out or play basketball all year and get an 'A".
Hell, Taft is too afraid to move to the Illini conference in football. And, basketballer John Joyce would have better served transferring to another school as Taft's basketball program is in the hands of a Nishi.
People know about the Nishi nepotism and if I were the Nishi sons, I wouls top yelling and swearing on the sidelines throughout games. if I were them, I would be 'out of sight, out of mind' of everyone at Taft and throughout CPS. People are losing their jobs and you have this nepotism at Taft.
Posted by: no more nishis | July 23, 2012 at 09:01 AM
You can't blame the Nishi's. They are being hired by the AD and the Principal.
In general I support principals and AD's to hire who they want. I feel they should have the decision making say in who get's to work in their buildings and who coaches their teams.
The problem lies not in the inital decision making, but in the aftermath. Principals and AD's should have the authority and the guts to fire poor performing employees after they get hired without going through the typical long due process. They should have the ability to let go bad teachers and bad coaches or bad cafteria workers or whatever after they have demonstrated their ability. In the case of Taft football and basketball, taft is coming off one of their better seasons in both sports. Basketball won more games than it has had in decades. Football has won conference two years in a row.
Going forward I do not see Taft's basketball teams or football teams this year as good as last years. I see basketball being in danger of going to the Blue but they probably won't just because of Joyce. As for football, Taft escaped a 2-7 record because it decided not to goto the Illini. That just gives another opportunity for CVS and Urban Prep who I feel are better representatives in the Illini. Taft will win a couple games in the Chicago conference because as much as they lost to graduation, it is not really that hard to beat Mather, Schurz, and Steinmetz. I say Foreman will win conference. Taft will stay in the Chicago as they want and the Nishi's will stay.

Nishi salaries for 2011-12 school year:
Nishibayashi, Brett $69,233
Nishibayashi, Chad $36,853
Nishibayashi, Nick $84,315
----------------------------
Total = $190.401
And, let's be honest here...NOBODY gets hired for a PE position anywhere on the face of this planet because they have the latest innovations in PE and are a great PE teacher, they get hired because they're good coaches, something the youngest Nishi isn't because he never coached anywhere else before being hired at Taft. Chad's hiring over more qualified coaches didn't afford an equal opportunity for the open PE position given to Chad. And, this is a big problem why CPS will never compete in stae with crap like this at Taft and schools like Lane and WY.
BTW: Taft's last principal (Artur Tarvadian, who hired both Breet and Chad) is a close friend of Nick Nishi and the head of the taft PE Dept. (Mike Hionis) has sat 3 feet away from Nick Nishi for 20 years.
Posted by: nishi money | July 23, 2012 at 09:46 AM
In the 4 years Nishi has been the head coach of basketball they have won more games that the previous year culminating in a 20 win season, conference championship and an elite 8 appearance this past season...hes terrible for the program
Posted by: stats | July 23, 2012 at 11:33 AM
I wasn't talking about Brett, I'm talking about Chad....like I said in the earlier post, one son working with the father Nick is acceptable, but, two sons is just fucking greedy. What's Chad's credentials, other than being a Nishi?

Lets see what the Office of the Inspector General believes when all family members are working at one school.

Done! This should make Taft PE teacher/coach Shereena Lewis happy as her friend was more qualified and was passed over for a Nishi. She's been bitchin' about it to everyone since and how she's going to clean house in the PE Department when she becomes department head when Mike Hionis retires or he's dragged out by his feet on a stretcher with a grabber, my guess is the later.

An earlier post said that it shouldnt be hard to beat Mather, Schurz and Steinmetz...whatever happened to mather's football program? they used to be one of the better teams on the north side but the have fallen off of the map since E. Miller left. what are those coaches doing over there other than complaining about everyone else? what a dismal performance from what used to be a quality team annually.

People are losing their jobs and you have this nepotism at Taft....
the nishi's are to blame for people being unemployed? hope obama doesnt find out!
Posted by: obama | July 24, 2012 at 08:40 AM
The Nishis don't know what a recession is.....last year the Taft Trio made over $200K working as PE Teachers at Taft, where no lesson planning is going on, prison yard gym classes are the norm, health classes consist of reading the book out loud and watching Osmosis Jones, and the two sons sit and play video games or text dring their two prep periods.....the father? he sits and yaps with people about current events during his three prep periods and has other PE teachers pretend to watch his classes 80% of the time when he goes inside or walks around school...what a joke..it's no wonder CPS wants a different pay scale foe PE teachers and REGULAR teachers....
Posted by: $200K | July 24, 2012 at 10:52 AM
Your right they dont...because they are all employed. They shouldnt have to apologize for having a job. They didnt hire themselves and quite honestly...those are ALL LIES that you just stated. None of that is even remotely true including the part about over 200K being paid out as you so graciously posted all of their salaries earlier. 190K < 200K.
Posted by: ridiculous and hilarious | July 24, 2012 at 11:11 AM
$190K in 2010-11, Chad Nishi had a full salary this year, which bumped his pay to $48K and the trios total salary to over $200K...and yes they're employed, but, would they be employed somehwere else than Taft?
Maybe Nick and Brett, but, not rockhead Chad. Oh yes, the Chicago and Taft way...
Posted by: Over $200K in 2011-12 | July 24, 2012 at 11:17 AM
Neil,
You censor people who point out your political biases, but you allow others to drag specific teachers, coaches, and schools through the mud via their racist, homophobic, or typically baseless attacks. I would be much more concerned with allowing the information found above and on countless other entries to remain "public." Families, children, communities, and hardworking people are all at stake. No one, including you, is improving our world through what we find on this site.
And taxpayers relax! Just because we have blogs to comment on doesn't mean everyone has to answer to us. This whole idea of everyone is accountable to the taxpayer is asinine.

Thanks Brett Nishi for your comments.

Dont worry about it Janko
Posted by: no worries | July 24, 2012 at 12:42 PM
The Nishis & Walsh believe they "WALK ON WATER!" They have the ability to do whatever they wish to when it comes to CPS. They use and abuse these idiots who follow them around.
How is Nishis Athletic Director, allowed his Head Football Coach to not move up to the Illini? Buy new equipment and t-shirts? Where is this money coming from?
I wonder what is bigger, their ego or their bank account?
Posted by: The Nishis & Walsh | July 24, 2012 at 01:07 PM
Everyone is entitled an opinion. If someone is honest with what they feel they are not responsible if you feel offended. By the way Neil does a pretty good job scrubbing out the racist attacks.
When someone gives facts such as salary info and coaching records or whatever that is fair game because facts and records speak for themselves and are not debateable.

@The Nishis & Walsh
Are you sure you aren't Lil' Sinatra?
Posted by: Lil' Sinatra | July 24, 2012 at 01:53 PM
@cps fan
Entitlement to an opinion! You can say that again. Unfortunately, it seems that very few on this site have worked for that entitlement.
Keep bashing. I am tuning out and off.
Posted by: ^ | July 24, 2012 at 02:45 PM
You must not know much of CPS football on the Northside. Coach Rocks is one of the Nishi/Walsh biggest fans. Together they form the biggest douchebag team!
Posted by: @ Lil' Sinatra? | July 24, 2012 at 04:04 PM
Nobody cares about them point blank period
Posted by: anonymous | July 24, 2012 at 10:30 PM
# Lil' Sinatra:
Are you still whining Janko? The only reason you got the Mather job was because nobody else wanted it and Swats just wanted to have more Jack and Cokes instead of coaching anymore.
Janko, you make a good buck for what you do, so shut your trap.
Posted by: @Lil' Sinatra | July 25, 2012 at 09:42 AM
Janko was good for the goose is good for the gander. Mather's football coach Janko's and his brother's salaries for last year.
Jordanof, Stoyan $75,336
Jordanof, Yanko $71,995
How does it feel Janko?
Posted by: Janko and bros salaries | July 25, 2012 at 10:54 AM
and we live in Chicago, not Elmhurst
Posted by: elmhurst | July 25, 2012 at 11:02 AM
I wonder if Brett and Chadd still live at home with Dad? Alot of income coming to one home!
Posted by: one home | July 25, 2012 at 04:09 PM
No, Brett lives somewhere around Foster and Damen. Chad still raids the refrigerator, rent-free with Papa Nick.
Posted by: two homes | July 26, 2012 at 09:07 AM
Hey Janko what are you going to do when Jones get canned? Gravy train ends soon.
Posted by: darkknight | July 26, 2012 at 10:32 PM
Brett why dont you attempt to make a name for yourself rather than riding the coat tails of your daddy. And you can have Chris and the rest of the Eagle rejects back at anytime. You and your little group have step on and screwed over more people than u will ever know. The days of all of you running the show are coming to an end. So enjoy it while it last.
Posted by: @Dark Knight | July 27, 2012 at 02:09 AM
For Brett to do that, he would have to go to a different school. That ain't going to happen.btw:Taft never won anything in sports, so, why all the hoopla about them. Hell, Mather won state in soccer last years and won the Prep Bowl under Eddie Miller in football. What has Taft won? Taft won the right to print more t-shirts about how they qualified for state football playoffs, got their asses KICKED, and then refused to move up to a real conference. Taft can't beat Lane in football and Lane sucks. Why not use one of next year's preseason football games to play Lane. Why? because Taft beat Lane for the 1st time in 40 years backin the 90's and haven't beat them since. And goofball janko was on lane's team. Is that why Janko is pissed at Taft?

Is this sight for women who like to talk about each other or is about high school sports in CPS?
Posted by: idk | July 27, 2012 at 07:18 AM
They're catty like women because the only north side team in the Illini conferences for football is Lane and they're all jealous of Lane. All the women at the reins at Taft, Mather, and Sullivan are all wannabes.
Posted by: jealous | July 27, 2012 at 09:12 AM
almost all the good basketball and football teams are on the west or south sides. Best teams are generally where there is some concentration of black middle class or at least kids from stable neighborhoods of brothers. That is why Simeon, Curie, and Morgan Park see to do well in both sports. Up north there are not enough stable black neighborhoods. Plus up north you either have too many hispanic and Polish kids who are not cultually as much into basketball and football. The beasts are down sout or in the west side.
