Last Year:
(6-3, 4-1) 2nd place Intra-City 4 football conference. Don't mistake this Urban Prep with the other Urban Prep from the Chicago conference. This Urban Prep is in East Garfield and opened in 2009. Last year UPEG played in the Intra-City 4 conference. Only a loss to conference champion Chicago Bulls prevented UP East Garfield from taking conference. With conference realignment and talk of Charter Schools(including conference champion Chicago Bulls forming their own conference separate from the CPS) we won't know until the CPS officially releases conference teams as to which conference UPEG will be on.
Quick Take:
Defense was strong last year as UPEG gave up on 6 points in wins over Juarez, Crane(forfeit), Munchin, and UC Charter. The top defensive player to look out for is Diandre Caracter(OL/LB, sr)-their returning leading tackler.
UPEG returns experience on the offensive side of the ball as they return the teams starting quarterback Raheem Barnes(QB/DB, jr), leading rusher Benjamin Reed (RB/LB,sr), and leading receiver Michael Taylor(WR/DB, jr).
UPEG does not throw the ball too much and is instead more of a run team with Barnes capabale of running the ball at the QB position or handing the ball off to Reed.
If UPEG returns in the Intra City conference, they should be good. This fall 2012 is also the first year with a senior class for UPEG. Add that to their returning talent, UPEG should be able to compete for the conference title.
Players to look out for:
Raheem Barnes(QB/DB, jr)(returning starting QB)
Benjamin Reed (RB/LB,sr)(returning leading rusher)
Michael Taylor(WR/DB, jr)(returning leading receiver)
Diandre Caracter(OL/LB, sr)(returning leading tackler)
