It's not yet 100% confirmed, but sources have told me that Curie has hired former Western Michigan University quarterback Jay McDonough as the head football coach.(fb photo)
Curie has hired a new football coach from what my sources told me. The head football coach from Hope Academy. It's a small school. His name is Jay Mcdonaugh and he played Quarterback for Western Michigain and played Arena bowl.
McDonough grew up in Tacoma, WA and played football from Western Michigan. My first impression was great, another CPS outsider from Michigan taking over a major CPS program.
Then again unlike the other coach he got his feet wet as the coach at Hope Academy in Chicago.

Actually he got his feet wet at Roosevelt HS in 2004-2005

Jay played at Gordon Tech HS in Chicago. Knows his football but a lot of people do not like him. I think this will backfire on Curie...hope it works out! Good luck him and Curie HS.

Jay bailed on Lane Tech after getting hired in the spring one year. Then, he landed at Niles West on the not-so-great' Scott Baum's staff with current Lane coach Fred Proesel.
Jay bailed after a year there too.
He's a one hit (year) wonder, then, by the second year, he wears out his welcome.
I think he also coached aty Naperville North, but, didn't fit there either

He coached at Young during the 08-09 season and he was a gym teacher there for two years.

Curie will still be good they have a lot of young talent that will be on varisty this season just hope the couch as the right offence and defence to use his players in the right way

Curie will be good talentwise! This guy needs win over the players and the school because LeBlanc was loved throughout the entire student body. I wish him luck and pray he brings curie football a bunch of success

Would probably have been a better coach at Lane or a Big Shoulders school b/c of the north side/north suburban history. Probably need a football version of the departed Kevin Hickey (fmr White Sox/Kelly HS alum) or some of the Elton Harris accolytes from the late 90s Hubbard teams to make it work at Curie.

Will Curie have enough to compete with Super Powers Simeon, and CVS this year?
Posted by: Black | May 17, 2012 at 12:47 PM
Wow he played D1 football and arena football. When was the last time a CPS coach have that type of qualifications.

Is Jeremy Gold out at Morgan Park?

Gold is looking to bail out of MP after one unsuccessful season. Instead of taking responsibility, he is blaming it on Spurlock leaving for his poor performance.
He is still at MP, but looking for other jobs. Not good.
If he leaves he better do it soon so MP can hire a new coach before off season gets really swinging.

We knew Gold was a fraud from the beginning with his self promoting web site. Hit em in the mouth!!!!!!! Face ass outta here. I hope he gets the job in Ohio.

Meet him today we will be fine nice guy seemed like he now what he wad doing watch out for Curie this year
Posted by: curie star | May 17, 2012 at 07:51 PM
somebosy said people don't like him..
95% of coaches are disliked by people. Envy often plays a big role. Plus whenever a school brings in a new head from out of the building, the hatting starts real quck. People say things about the new guy wihtout having ever even met him so I wouldn't read too much into the whole like dislike thing.
As for gold... woooooww

There are a lot of people who do know him and do not like him. There is a reason why he has never been in a place more than a couple of years. I give him 2-3 years tops at Curie before he is gone. It is just a matter of time before he wears out his welcome.
Posted by: lala | May 18, 2012 at 02:00 PM
Jay has tremendous knowledge of the game and can bring out the best in his players. Having come from the Chicago Catholic League, he knows what a good high school football program looks like. The only reason this guy has not stuck around anywhere is that he knows what he needs to win and he will not compromise his ideals; that's just the attitude I would want in a head coach. If he can put up with the backward CPS sports program, the future looks bright for Curie.

Anyone know of any high schools that are looking for a PE teacher who has 15 years experience coaching football,basketball, baseball/softball? I currently work in a elementary ed school and due to the schedule change I will no longer be able to keep coaching a fall and spring sport at the high school level. I love the school I currently work at but I want to be able to continue coaching a the hs level. The only alternative I have is to teach in a hs where I can coach and be on the same schedule. I live on the northside so I am looking for a northside school or even a west side school. Would love to know if Westinghouse, Lane, Mather, Taft, Lakeview, West Grand,Young, or Lincoln Park, have any openings. I would also consider others. Thanks.

Hey Hope had a black head coach last year. Use to play for Julian
Posted by: coach jason | May 27, 2012 at 08:25 AM
Please put simeon in front of cvs so you can eat those words. I am willing to bet anyone that CVS will beat simeon. Neil CVS has six players with d1 offers. Why haven't you mention that.

I hate this fucking guy and after a while the whole Curie football team will hate his ass. He's a jackass and i played for him last year and something is wrong with him. He doesnt call good plays and he's a snake. He got fired from Hope incase anyone didnt know. Those weak ass plays won't cut it cause now he playing with the big boys. He shouldn't have been a candidate for the job and i hope he is fired for the sake of the season and future of Curie.

McDonaugh's been around to several schools in the last 7-8 years before landing at Hope and now at Curie.
Here's a list of schools:
DeLaSalle
Niles West(after accepting a job at Lane and quitting before coaching a day)
Roosevelt
Naperville North
So, this will be his 7th school in 9 years..word is he can't be told what to do and argues a lot with others, has a huge ego, and likes his adult beverages.
Posted by: McDonaugh gets around | July 29, 2012 at 10:16 PM
He won't last long at Curie!
-He was fired from Roosevelt because he couldn't understand why he could not have practice during his PE classes.
-He quit Lane before actually starting.
-He left Niles West because he couldn't handle his role as an assistant and thought he was the head coach and got along with no one in the PE dept or coaching staff.
-Taught PE at Whitney Young but was let go because he decided not to coach football as an assistant at WY and took the head job at Hope.
- I am not sure what happened with Naperville North or De La Salle.
Does anyone notice a pattern?
@McDonaugh gets around
You are exactly right and that is why he will not last at Curie. Things will have to be his way and if they are not(100%)he has a big problem with it and will let you know!
Posted by: idk | July 30, 2012 at 05:10 AM
I didn't know abouy WY, so, that makes 8 schools in 9 years..don't these CPS principals check on anything, other than getting the 'ok' nod from someone in the Ole Boys Network?
Posted by: 8 schools in 9 years | July 30, 2012 at 07:42 AM
@8 schools in 9 years
I do not believe he is part of the good Ole Boys Network! A lot of people do not like him. His welcome wears off pretty quickly. The more you are around him the quicker it will wear off. I truly believe ADs are impressed with accolades as a player. I give hims his respect as player at all levels...hs, college, and pro, but as a coach I think he is horrible. He is not a team player and has trouble controlling his temper. He forgets they are student-athletes not just athletes. He knows what he is talking about but does not know how to get the respect of his fellow coaches and most of all his players!
Posted by: idk | July 30, 2012 at 08:47 AM
@idk
He's a prima donna. Though, to his defense, most guys coaching at the schools he coached at don't know their asses from a hole in the ground..Jay coached twice with Scott Baum (Niles West and DeLaSalle) and Baum has a lifetime .300 winning pct...Jay quickly seen the operation Rio was running at Lane, especially Rio making coaches sell candy and fork over $150 to the football booster club, and got out.....at WY, Tim Frankel is a St. Rita retread and more often than not, he chases his own tail....Roosevelt or Hope Academy? ...I think he knew he was better than to be there...Naperville North, Jay didn't want to work his way up the ladder from freshman football and wanted to be the OC of the varsity.....after he bombs out at Curie, especially with all the CPS budget cuts, I suggest he try to get back to the college or the pseudo-pro ranks and coach there.....maybe, even the UFL.
Posted by: prima donna | July 30, 2012 at 09:37 AM
He left NW because he was there teaching for someone on maternity leave, she returned.Not because he wanted to. Nobody would leave that gig on their own. Same for WY. He left because they closed his PE position. He just resigned from Hope he wasnt fired. That is three inaccuracies right there.
Posted by: darkknight | July 30, 2012 at 12:02 PM
@darkknight
Next year they will close his position at Curie and then.....
Posted by: idk | July 30, 2012 at 12:15 PM
Well, whatever the reasons for him moving around, he's still been at 8 schools in 9 years. Obviously, he's not a keeper.
If he was wanted at Young, Dr. Joyce Kenner and Tim Frankel would have found a way to keep him, same goes for Baum at Niles West as he needs all the help he can get as he's on the ropes like his buddy Fred Proesel is at Lane. And, I don't see the great Scottie Baum winning more than 2 games at best this year (finishing 2-7) and Proesel winning more than 4 (finishing 4-5).
Posted by: not a keeper | July 30, 2012 at 12:16 PM
Rumor has it, Taft Coach Matt Walsh was offered the position, but turned it down. He recomended McDonaugh, part of the "Good Ole Boys Network," his ego is bigger than Walsh, Rock, and Bey combined.
Congrats Curie, you now are part of the clique....enjoy
Posted by: Taft connection | July 30, 2012 at 03:52 PM
I really hope people stop disrespecting my coach he is not that bad students are to sensitive he only gets upset when students don't do their job you just have to perform he Is not the last coach he is no push over you do it he's way or quit the team and that is what we need
Posted by: curie star | July 30, 2012 at 06:24 PM
Curie players are really starting to notice how bad of a coach McDonough is after a poorly coached game against Argo which they lost. The players don't deserve this!!!!
