No. 1 Simeon 52, No. 20 Young 42
St. Francis 64, Crane 51
DuSable 51, No. 17 St. Ignatius 44
The most hyped up game was #1 Simeon vs Whitney Young. Simeon had to rally after being down by 3 at the half for the big win.
But the biggest surprise out of all the results was Dusable's 51-44 upset of St. Ignatius(23-6) at St. Ignatius. St. Ignatius is a state ranked team Catholic League North champion and was a solid pre-playoff favorite to make it at least to the supersectionals. Instead, St. Ignatius season ends in the sectional semi-finals to a Dusable team that finished 5th in the Red-Central conference with a 4-5 conference record. Then again, DuSable did win games this season against Crane and Proviso West.
Dusable is a much smaller team than St. Ignatius. Their point guard Malik Williams(jr) is only 5-7. St. Ignatius has players like 6-8 forward Peter Ryckbosh. But Dusable won it with heart and making shots. Dusable hit 9 of 10 key free throws in the 4th quarter - in a game which Dusable led by only one to start the 4th quarter.
This just show you how deep the Chicago Public League is in boys basketball. Dusable plays this Friday at the St. Ignatius Sectional final against the winner of tomorrow's Dunbar versus Jones match up.
