[Prosser's Bates & Hunter Lose their Accrued Sick Days]

The best thing coming out of the CPS sick days fiasco is since Jeffrey Bates' lips are attached to Principal Hunter's ass and Bates isn't in a union, he and Hunter (non-union administrator) will now lose their sick day cash payouts when they retire (or leave) from CPS.

You have to figure Bates lost about $23,305 (maybe more) in cash money from his accrued sick days.

This is how I figured it out, based on if Bates Accrued (Saved) 100 sick days and he makes $55K (he made $53,618.76 in 2010-11) in 2011-12.

55,000 X .25 (taxes) = $13,750

13,750 X 3 = $41,250 Bates net pay,

$41250/177 (school days) = $233.05 Bates daily net pay

$233.05 X 100 (Sick Days lost) = $23,305 (cash money lost from accrued sick days).

And, Hunter almost never takes sick days, so he stands to lose anywhere from $125K-$170K

Not much of an investigation here, but it is good to get it out in the public.
This came to light because this is the last year this formula is in place, per the contract between CPS and the teacher's union. No one was keeping it a secret.
This was done intentionally by CPS negotiators several years ago to motivate older teachers to retire and open up space for new hires, and lower costs by having teachers with less seniority (and pay).
I do not know how it was applied to non-union employees, or if they benefited from the past formula.
Teachers have until March to declare if they are in their last year, but you can expect this will open up some spots in schools across the city.
Any teacher who does not retire this year will lose the ability to add the unused sick leave and vacation pay to the base salary used to compute their retirement pension.
For most teachers, this is a 5% per year decision- the difference in their retirement- which they will lose if they do not retire this year.
I personally think this was a great idea and will get many of the teachers who are in more for the pay and comfort than the mission out of the system.

I find it hard to believe that teachers are villified for coming to work every day. if you accrued that many sick days it means you are in the classroom EVERY DAY and focused on the "mission" at hand.

Rich Rio will not be the only one retiring this year because of this change.

All four of these people would be in danger of losing some or all of the unsused sick and vacation days with them possibly losing between $150K and $200K.

Teachers file EEOC layoff complaint

The Chicago Teachers Union filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Wednesday, alleging the 2011 layoffs unfairly impacted black teachers.

“The Board’s lay-off policy has had a systematic, class-wide, disparate impact on African-American teachers,” CTU President Karen Lewis said in a statement. “We believe this policy violates Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act and should be prosecuted by the EEOC.”

In the 2011 school year, 47 percent of CPS’ tenured teachers were white, while 29 percent were black, according to the CTU. But of those who lost their jobs, 36 percent were white, while 43 percent were black.

The EEOC complaint was filed on behalf of four laid-off teachers but the complaint also seeks “restitution” for 365 other African-American teachers who lost their jobs, according to the CTU statement.

CPS officials could not be reached for comment Wednesday night.

[No Masters in Spanish]

Jeffrey Bates keeps telling people he has a Masters in Spanish from Augsburg College. Well guess what gang? They don't offer it and never have offered it without a graduate student being in licensed program, meaning something in the field of education. And, they said they don't give out a Masters in Spainsh if you don't fulfill your licensed program.

Now, if Bates had his Masters everything would be moot.

And, guess what else? Bates put a degree on his CPS application he doesn't have. I suggest he get his buddy Kenny to call down to remove his application from his employee records before his nabbed.

It must be depressing living a lie and any minute your bubble's going to burst.
