New Trier 81 Taft 52
Kevin Siudut(6-7,sr, C) and Princeton bound Steven Cook(6-4) of New Trier.
Taft had a good start and actually led 15-14 in the first quarter. But after that it was all New Trier. The Trevians ended the first quarter with 6 straight free throws followed by a Jordan Thomas(so) half court shot. In the second quarter, despite star Dartmouth bound Conor Boehm(sr) sitting out with 2 fouls, New Trier extended their lead to about 16 at the half. Taft's John Joyce(so- 6/5 G/F) started the game with 3 3 pointers.
New Trier is most known for its two big men 6-7 Boehm and Austin Angler(6-4,sr), but what really hurt Taft was the play of it's guards Princeton bound Steven Cook, sophomore Jordan Thomas(5-10, G), and #1 David Bragiel(5-10, sr). Their stifling defense caused numerous turnovers by Taft guards Taylor Kuehn(sr), Pierrenzo Pozzi(sr), and Joshua Doss(sr).
John Joyce(so) led Taft with about 16 points, but fouled out of the game early in the 4th quarter after getting a technical foul for hanging on the rim.
Taft plays Lane Tech on Monday in a make up game. Taft needs to win if it wants to stay in the hunt for the Red-North crown. I will say that after today, I still feel Taft is a good team, but their guard play seems susceptible to a good defense and Lane has a good defense.
Taft freshman guard Jovan Oyola guards New Trier sophomore Jordan Thomas.
tough day for taft. they are a better team than what the showed today. there could be a rematch of this game come state playoff time as they are in the same sectional i believe. i dont think that new trier is 30 points better than taft though...just one of those days...thats basketball for ya

Yes, this is the level of Taft. Unfortunately, Taft fans dominate this site so they will not accepted the true level of their sports program. Soccer, football, basketball...alll the same= mediocre at best

About time to hop off the Taft bandwagon, Neil.
Posted by: C'mon man. | January 22, 2012 at 03:26 AM
wow...that didnt take any time at all did it? taft has lost 3 games since thanksgiving (von, st pats and new trier) and im sure you all have been holding on to your hate for taft for a while now. glad you could seize the opportunity today to make your negative comments. "Taft fans dominate this site..." really? you have got to be joking. there have been a couple of features on this blog about Taft and there are very few comments in support of them....how do you figure Taft people dominate the site? Neil has never been on the Taft bandwagon either. he is waiting for them to fail as well; he just cant be as overt as others with his bias.

Did Taft have more t-shrts made after playing New Trier?
"We played New Trier and all we got was our asses and these t-shirts"

Lane Tech has a better sophomore in Admir Suljic. He leads the varsity team in scoring and put up a career high 26 against Lincoln Park @ Lincoln Park.

Joyce was an espn illinois player of the week, the kid from lane wasnt

2 correcetions...first to Javier...you say you saw Lane play a weak Ridgewood team...WRONG...I have seen Ridgewood play several times along with Lane and all other North side schools play...Ridgewood is small but they are quick as hell. Leaders are Andy Mazurczak and Pete Mroz. Also petes younger brother Anthoney(So.)also contributes....
And to the blogger Admir > John I presume you are talking about the Soph from Taft.(if not I am sorry)
Admir from Lane has a bright future at lane the next 2 years...After seeing both Lanes and Taft JV.....Both players are going to step their game to a new level. However if you are comparing them I would have to disagree with you, Joyce by far has the upside and he ownes, along with Admir their own future. D1 for Joyce? Maybe but alot to work on...He has the shot and the drive but needs to improve. I graduated CPS in 2007 and try to go to 50+ games a year. I love the HS game. Really don't like when you guys bash each other here...Work hard to improve your game so maybe you can ease the financial burden of college on your family, wheter it's a D-1 or a Junior College...It's the education is being paid for that's all that matters...Support each other in this...Good luck to all.

Why was their coach forced to resign?
Posted by: what happened at Hyde Park? | January 22, 2012 at 06:19 PM
Eligibility violations caused the resignation according to the info I got. I heard a sports administration report is being released this week and it will impact playoff position in the red central. There are other violations in the report as well.

Sorry, LP is fine. Its Hyde Park with the issues.

@corrections by Big Dog
IF YOU HAVE TIME TO GO TO 50+ games a year then you obviously don't work hard at your job or even have a job. you should start working instead of trying to relive your "glory" days by posting on this blog and fantasizing about high school boys

I dont know where you're getting your information from but Admir's upside is better. Everything you see John Joyce do out there is exactly what Admir specializes in. Admir is a lights-out shooter, a better dribbler AND defender than John.
Posted by: You will see. | January 22, 2012 at 07:09 PM
You heard it here first weeks ago. One of the violations in the report from CPS Sports Administration will be coaches without any teaching or coaching certifications. Calvin Davis wants to get the report out first before Channel 2 does their report and embarasses CPS.

Principals hire coaches in CPS right?
Posted by: Coaches | January 22, 2012 at 09:21 PM
Principals hire head coaches, head coaches hire the assistant coaches.

I expected better "talent" to be cheerleading for New Trier. Sorry for the Elliot Harris moment.
