Wrestling
* Bowen's Ronzel Darling(sr)is trying to win a 4th straight city championship at the CPS wrestling championship Jan 28-29th. This is a feat that has only been done once before in CPS history. The only other 4 time CPS wrestling champion was Tilden's Ronald Wilsonfrom 1975-1978.
Chess
* The CPS chess championship is this Saturday, January 28th at the CPS Sports office on 35th street. The title will come down to state juggernauts Whitney Young and surging Northside Prep. Whitney Young is the defending state champion. Northside Prep is fresh off a close 35-33 loss to Whitney Young in the championship game of the Raider Tournament last Saturday. Kelly had played very well this year. Lane is trying out a lot of players and may even have a few freshman break into it's top 8. Lincoln Park could be in the mix as well.
Basketball
* Uplift, Amundsen, and Chicago Academy are in a dog fight for the coveted top 2 spots in the Blue-North. The top 2 teams get promoted to the more competitive Red-North where they will switch with the bottom two teams in the Red-North. In the Red-North the bottom 3 teams in the standings are winless Senn, and one conference win teams Mather and Steinmetz. Mather may have the edge over Steinmetz because they Mather beat Steinmetz 52-49 earlier this season.
* The CN100 Game of the Week travels to Chicago for a Public League matchup between the top-ranked Simeon Wolverines and Harlan Falcons. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 27, at Harlan High School. Can’t make it to the game? Look for the rebroadcast throughout Chicagoland at Noon and 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 28, on CN100, The Comcast Network. Later in the week, and throughout the 2011-12 season, it will also be available with Xfinity On Demand.
* Lot's of talk on the lame stream media on Simeon basketball and all of their stars. Not talked about too much is undefeated in conference play Bogan. Bogan and Simeon still have to play this year. The winner takes the Red-South.
Amundsen beat Chicago Academy on Thursday so it looks like it's going to be Uplift and Amundsen moving up. This will be Amundsen's first appearance in the Red-North in over 30 years. Senn lost to Sulivan early this season and they might be the worst team in the Red in the whole city. I think that Mather has a slight edge on Steimentz.
