Four years of high school eligibility for all students, including these.
They can compete with other 7-8th grade teams, that is all, or they use up eligibility.
As a parent of a Whitney Young "Accy" I can tell you most of their attention and effort will be in the classroom, not on the sports fields.
Some will be great additions to teams in 9th grade and beyond- smart and driven in athletics the same way they are in academics- but that the extent of it.

WY is more of an academic focused school than Lane. I feel that LTAC students will reflect that and do more sports and activities than the WYAC.

as long as Rich Rio, Howard Newman, and the wonderful LoBosco as Principal there(she could care less about sports). This school will go nowhere....They never could develop kids.....it was the few talented kids that win, not the above bunch.

Lane gets the Academic Center kids from Taft as well in high schoo that have become big contributors in their respective sports...i.e. Kevin Yoo, Jon Vara, Luis Beltran, Walter Cohn are a few of the current athletes at Lane. Pieruccine and Schuster are also graduates of the Taft Academic Center.

pieruccini was fuken garbage bro, didnt he lead lane to below .500 season for the first time in like 10 years? and then to be replaced by the jr qb

Another reason for other city schools to bitch.

Why are they called the School of Champions? Have they won of a lot of STATE championships? 4000+ students and all they win are city championships. They beat up on small schools with 1/4 or 1/2 of their population and their proud of that. GO LANE.

I forgot he played football...i was referring to him playing baseball...sorry i didnt clarify. I wasnt stating it as a bad thing though. Its good that those students goto Lane and thrive in athletics and academics. Good for them!

didnt the jr qb do the same thing though?

Wrestling Track and Baseball are the only teams who have a shot at doing something in the state series.

Lane's grade per sport vs city competition

    baketball- C
    chess- B
    cross country- A+
    track- A+
    soccer- A
    16-inch softball- A+
    swimming- A
    golf- C
    tennis- B
    water polo- A-
    lacrosse-A+
    bowling-B+
    volleyball-B
    baseball- B
    football- B
    wrestling- A+
    bass fishing- Incomplete

best sports are wrestling, track, cross country, 16 inch softball, and lacrosse.

worse sports are bowling, tennis, basketball

    Football B??? Joke, right?

Football gets a B not because Lane is good against the suburbs or Catholic League. If Lane was graded against the suburbs or Catholic League, they would get a D. The only reason they would not get an F is because however bad Lane is there are still teams like Maine East, Ridgewood, Niles North, and Maine West that Lane could beat. Don't even think about comparing Lane to Maine South or Loyola.

The only reason Lane gets a B is because it is a B in the CPS. I know Lane was bad last year but Lane can still crush 80% of the CPS. Lane can beat everyone in Intercity conference, 90% of teams in Chicago conference, and only surprisingly I think they can beat 50% of teams in Illini Conference. I'm talking Lane can beat Brooks, Senn, and Al Raby type schools.

Lane football is not as bad as people think. Next year, they will be even better.

Al Raby would beat lane i think lol and there football grade is a c in city they are terrible like qbert says they got double triple quadruple the kids all the other schools have with a exception of few like curie and still dont stop on these teams like they should be

The problem with lane sports is they are always under so much scrutiny only because of their size.

Wrestling just had an undefeated season, 24-0, but everyone is saying they had a weak schedule, and could never do what any of the teams like Sandburg and OPRF could do.

Football and Basketball play some of the toughest competition in the city and state, to challenge themselves, but they never win and get bashed.

Lane can't win when it comes to people having something to say.

"Lane can't win when it comes to people having something to say."

You're right, they just win when it comes to the field. Keep crying about school size, we love it. lol

lane would be in its heyday next year the football team as some talented sophomores and juniors that the team coach prossels been waiting for

Lane is never going to get into state in fottball, they might bwat suburd school but that dont mean nothing ,Do they have competition to beat Simeon,Hubbard,Curie or Morgan park.? i dont thinck soo.Lane gets a D in football

i pretty sure with their stacked sophomore and junior class and the other top school graduating their seniors lane will win conference or at least be second place

They might graduate there seniors but they will still have alot of talent, lane will be the same as last years, other schools have sophmores and juniors like you say'' i pretty sure with their stacked sophomore and junior class ''

hmmmmm....lane sophomores beat curie 2 years in a row they beat hubbatd bogan and lose to whitney young because they bump the good sophomores to varsity because most of the seniors were injured this year most of lane varsity starters were juniors.....the only team that beat lane sophmores was simeon by a touchdown in overtime

Dosent mean lane will win again

trust me they will this is coach proessel first team the last two seasons were still coach rios team

WTF ? How about the wrastling scores for CITY?
    Who's in Who's out?

Letz get back to city sports you Aholes!

Rio is retiring June 2012... hoorah!

Most good school soph's play varsity gaining experience while lane's soph who r juniors will get their ass kick in varsity next year 5-4 if they are lucky

you dont understand the other teams in the conference are grauating their stars

    @swerkered nobres

"Rio is retiring June 2012... hoorah!"

Is this confirmed this time or just another rumor? Where did you hear this? What makes you believe this to be true?

you guys are all tweaking on the real school of champions, whitney young. Not only has lane NOT won more city championships in the last 3 years, maybe more, (lane tied them last year) but put lanes best 2000ish kids against WYs 2000ish students it has and WY will put up better grades and test scores. Yeah they might not always be state contenders in every sport, but those suburbs can touch that school when it comes to grades and test scores!

Lane has been winning over 100 years. In the 1940's, 1950's Lane was one of best schools in state.

It has built it's reputation for many many decades not just a few years. Every long time Chicagoan who has any kind of north side connection has or knows some Laneites.

The top 75 at Lane can stack up academically to the top 75 in any school in Illinois. Plus we have the balance in sports and activities. Say what you will, we do not foucs all on sports or academics. Making a school play, being a top performer on the debate team, and trying to crack the top 8 in chess is just as hard challenging and rewarding.

It's true... ask around about Rio retiring

    Keyword: was.
WY is better in debate in chess...

lmfao its debate and chess pussy, ohhhhh WY is badass

If Rich Rio really is retiring that will bring a true renaissance for the Lane Athletic program. Now, all the Rio haters like Mitchell, Marchan, Nobiling, Eisenberg, Hofmann, and Lollino will have to put up or shut up.

The big question is will Howard Newman and Tony Chronis still be involved with Lane if/when Rio leaves? If the new Lane AD truly wanted to start fresh both of those two s******** would be gone ASAP as Mitchell, Nobiling, Eisenberg, Hofmann, and Lollino all hate them too!

And a good bet for next Lane A would be either Hofmann or Lollino. But, would Lollino take the AD job after he was screwed with false acusations by a player which went unfounded a few years ago? But Lollino won and is back at Lane teaching PE, coaching at Morton College, and drawing a phat salary for having his Masters degree.

Which brings the question is if a CPS PE teacher with a Masters that much more smarter of efficient than a CPS PE teaching with a Bachelor's degree? Overpaying for PE teachers that don't coach and have a Masters is one reason why CPS is broke.

Eisenberg would love to have the AD job, especially the way he shits on people and loves being in charge. Eisenberg is the typical entitled teacher all taxpayers have grown to hate.

It's a good thing Lane performs so well academically, otherwise. if they didn't our new mayor would have a field day on monies being wasted at Lane on salaries, equipment, etc.

Jarka is going to be new AD

Rich Rio was issued a warning resolution by the CPS at the January 2012 board meeting. The warning resolution is the first step by CPS to firing him.

Is this the reason why he's 'supposedly' retiring?

    What did he do?

A- minus for Water Polo haaaa what a joke they suck in Polo they got beat by Juarez and other small schools

The word is Juarez and the other small schools have a a lot of Cubans on their water polo team. So, that explains why their teams are so good

@Will need Lane AD get rid of Chronis and Newman?

No! You dumb fuck! CPS is not broke because of teachers' salaries. You cps teacher reject! It is broke because my predecessor did a shitty job overlooking all the mismanagement of monies. Now that I have taken over, I am blaming the teachers for all the wrong in the world.

Lane underachieves terribly in athletics. With 4,000+ students, it should dominate the state, after all, it is one of the biggest high schools in the state. Lane couldn't win the 2A championship in most sports, and would even struggle with 1A programs in others. Let's face it, dominating smaller schools around Chicago is the highlight o f it's season. It's unfortunate too, because it shows that the athletic department has no clue as to how to make its sports better.

    @2 cents
I agree with you. They compete for the city championship in some sports and they have the nerve to call themselves the school of champions. If Lane had as many state championships as they did city championships then you could call yourselves the school of champions...hell if you had 1/8th of that amount.

Stevenson is just as big or bigger and they don't dominate in athletics. So are they underachieving?

    @ Rahm,

No, but Stevenson faces waaaaay tougher competition across the board (going against teams like New Trier, Lake Forest, Zion-Benton, etc) and I'm going to go out on a whim and say they probably have had better success on an athletic state level than Lane. Look, I'm not here to dump on Lane, I just know that with their size, they are disappointing, because there are schools across the state with way lower numbers but better success. So for all of the people who try to defend it, it's kind of a silly argument. Look at Galesburg High School for instance. Big school, in the middle of nowhere. They barely lost to Whitney Young in the State Final in 1998. Always a competitive track program, amongst other sports. It just makes sense, that when a school has as many students as these schools, they should be more competitive outside of a city/district level.

Having tough competition is no excuse to underperform. If anything, facing regular tough competition should make you better. How do you improve at your sport if you don't face more adept opponents than yourself? Your argument is counterintuitive.

WY thrashed the Lane Sophomore team in football this year, and they didn't need OT to do it.
15 freshmen and 4 sophomores vs their all soph team.
Lots of talent out there, LT needs an offense that isn't so damn predictable.

New athletic director at lane will be Jarka who is current head of security at Lane and former AD at Gordon tech I believe? Not the best choice but they got him at the right price (cheap). Rio retiring not being forced out. Hoffman would have been big mistake for AD.

Principal Lobosco is actually big supporter of Lane athletics. In the beginning of her tenure she was not but she is now and travels to wrestling meets downstate. Get the facts straight.

I hope for the sake of Lane football coach Prosell finally delivers. The talent is there but running 95% of the time and no passing it puts pressure on defense. Unfortunately new AD will be powerless and if another losing season Prosell will still be around hoping for his big opportunity to coach at Loyola in the future. Not.

Lane should take city in both boys (loaded)/girls track, baseball will be strong this year finally, girls softabll should be state contender along with girls water polo.

I wouldn't expect much from Jarka as this guy is extremely lazy. Try to cover your nose around him as he has a really bad BO problem too and rarely washes his clothes and hair, he has dandruff from being too lazy to wash the shampoo out of his hair. YUCK!

Jarka came to Lane after Weber High School closed in 1999(?) and he was supposed to be the head bball coach and dean of students there.

Before Weber, Jarka was at St. Benedict as a head bball coach and dean. But, spent most of his time boozin' it up at the bar on Grace and Leavitt. Jarka also was an asst. bball coach at St. Pat's.

Jarka coached Lane's basketball team into the ground after taking over for Frank Lollino Jr. And has coaches girls freshman softball at Lane, another team which didn't post too many W's

Originally, Jarka interviewed for the Lane Bball head coaching job, but, the job went to Tom Horn, now basketball coach at St. Benedict and also Lane's former boys softball coach. Jarka was Horn's asst bball coach until Lollino came to Lane.

Jarka is part of the Rich Rio Family at Lane. And for the person wanting the end to Howard Newman and Tony Chronis at Lane, forget it, Jarka loves both of them.

Jarka doesn't have a Masters or Type 75 certification, yet, he's continually being put in administrator positions at Lane.

Jarka will now draw a teaching salary and benfits to be exclusively only Lane's AD. Jarka basically drops a $20 and finds a $50 bill in his new position at Lane and bypasses a Lane grad in Hoffman to be AD, which adds credence to Lane administrators not wanting Lane alums at Lane to work.

most of lane sophomore on varsity by that week and retarted whitney only won by a tounchdwon so shutup faggot

    @ @2 cents

Dude, that's exactly my point, Lane doesn't face tough competition, and they still disappoint. Stevenson plays some pretty large schools on a regular, Lane doesn't. Lane plays schools like Shurz, Senn, Sullivan, you know, the who's who of terrible CPS athletic programs, and often lose to them. It's funny how Lane fans refuse to see that they continue to disappoint on a state level yr after yr. That's counterintuitive.

According to 2cents, with 4,000+ students, it should dominate the state, after all, it is one of the biggest high schools in the state.

So what is the point Dumbasses?!
Yes, Stevenson is in a tough conference but by this statement they should dominate anyway.

1998 Galesburg. Great point dumbass. From year to year, there will be a school from the middle of nowhere who will have a great season. No shit.

All paths to state are tough. Not one school dominates in every sport. Last school to really dominate was 1999-00 St. Charles before the district expanded.

Also, Lane has lost to the who's who of terrible CPS athletic programs? What the hell are you talking about. Lane has done more winning against those schools than losing. And what sport are you talking about?

Lane runs the city, and theres no argument there.

Great post Lazy as jarka. Its unfortunate that Lane took the easy way out and put Jarka there. I was afraid that would happen. I would have loved job but I think you need a teaching cert. We need a young dynamic person, preferable a Lane grad. I know you are fan of Hoffman but Iam not impressed. Chronis heart is in right place and I believe as he just wants a winner and a former Lane grad himself. lane could be school of champions again and I dont mean city champs I mean state. We have the numbers and raw talent. We need money like the suburban schools. We have some great coaches in Roof, Stavrakous, meidona and Logalbo tries hard in basketball but face it we will never compete with Simeon or Wy in B ball.

    ltrep-

are you kidding me? The LT Soph team got beat by a bunch of WY freshmen, with only 50 kids in the whole football program, you can be sure they had Soph and freshmen talent on varsity, too.
They had you shut down the whole game and LT only scored when WY had subbed out the entire starting D.
LT has DOUBLE the students of WY.
WY has come into your house TWICE in the last four years and beat you in your HOMECOMING GAME.
WY is going to be a team to watch in 2013-15. This will be a tough year with not enough seniors and juniors, but they can play.
Meanwhile. LT has talent, great facilities and still can't get it done in football. There is only one thing missing when compared to other programs- coaching.
Think about it, your freshman team lost to Gordon TECH, when you have almost EIGHT times as many kids in your school.

    @ 2cents II

Haha, you tickle me. Wait, let's first talk about Galesburg. Yeah, they made it to the state final in '98. That's not all they've done since then. Go to IHSA.org and look how they continuously make finals at state in relays, jumps, hurdles, etc. Don't twist what I'm saying when I say that Lane is one of the biggest schools in the state, and they barely dominate the city and are virtually non-factors at the state level. Yea, Lane wins track, but that's about it. Address that, dumbass!

Let's face it, Lane would struggle with a good 1A program across the board. Look at the small 1A schools downstate, compare their state qualifier times to Lane's state qualifiers. Don't just say sh*t and not back it up.

Problem with football is coaching. We have some great freshman talent but when the coach runs the ball 99% of the time, teams gear up for the run and we get crushed, three and out. This Proessel style offense is not working and most varsity palyers I talk with agree but are afraid to say anything to coach. Under new AD Jarka nothing will happen. lane had chance to get former Morgan park coach Spurlock who knows how to win. Instead we get Proessel and fail to go to State 2 years in a row. In addition, Lane got blowed out by 50 pts twice this year at home!! What an embarrasement. You would never see this happen at Mt. Carmel/St. Rita. Alumni would not put up with this. Unfortunately for the most part lane Tech alumni are non existant that is why the mediocre football program can continue. Thank god we have track and wrestling and girls softball who can produce state champs or the potential too.

Blame the principle not the coaches

    @2 cents,

What do you even know about schools like Galesburg, who by the way is in 2A for track? Secondly, how can you even compare the unequality in terms of a school system that gets kids ready for high school by the time they are 7th graders. I read where Belvidere North has a youth program starting in 5th grade for their sports. By the time these kids are in 9th grade they are leaps and bounds above districts that don't have them. Now, Lane is finally tasting real success in sports like wresting, track and cross country because they have smart coaches who took it upon themselves to fix whatever ills in the program

I am a Lane Parent. I have had (4) kids in three different CPS High Schools, and all have been in sports.
I look at Lane and see smart kids, great facilities, good recruits in sports, including football. These kids know how to win and want to be great.
Somewhere along the way, especially in Football, that just isn't getting done. I am amazed the coaches continue to run the same offense year after year, with no adjustment for the talents of the students in a given class/team. Then they say they use the game plans they have because they think it gives them an advantage against more pass oriented teams. Then they get their asses handed to them.
Lane teams also seem to fall down on fundamental skills, but you can't tell if that is poor coaching or just being beaten down and head hanging. A school this size should have someone on a D1 college list every year, and certainly have some kids going to the next level regardless if it is D1,2,3. that seems to be a rare event in Lane football recently.
What I see and hear now is the same thing I have heard at the other schools my kids attended where football has the same issues: good kids decide not to play because they don't want to make the sacrifice of time and effort to be on a mediocre team.
With homework and the distractions of being a teen, these kids have to want to be part of something special. There is too much competition for their attention and they have been taught to be winners, and now they see something that fails every year and they won't engage.
Something has to give, and the only people who can really move the program are the coaches, with a different attitude and a willingness to be more flexible in how they do their coaching.
Prosser doesn't need to go, he just needs to use what he knows about football in a different way. I am not sure he will or he even can bring himself to change, but alumni can make a big impression. That is not by bitching, but by offering to support the program and the kids and at the same time not be bashful about addressing the shortcomings.
That is something few alumni and parents get, or CPS coaches are willing to do. Let's not forget they want to win, but are struggling to find a way to get it done. The results speak for themselves. You can debate all the rest, but the results are the real tale of the tape.
The same thing applies to WY and Taft, where the there are plenty of talented kids and programs that have lost their way.

My apologies, coach Proesel, not Prosser. Not an intended insult.

Prosser is definitley on people's minds these days.

The big advantage Lane has over most of the other schools in the CPS is numbers. They need to play more up tempo,go no huddle and gas the opposition. The triple option is perfect for the no huddle .So many city schools are short on numbers and totally out of shape. It seems Lane coaches are not willing to think outside the box.

Prosser is on the mind? That reminds me I need to take a shit.

    John,

The no-huddle/depth approach would work if Lane was in a NW side-centric conference. in the Red Bird, they have the misfortune of being with the few south side schools (faster at the skill positions) with comparable depth, conditioning and size. Thats why Taft stays where it is and why you have this Taft-Mather-Steinmetz-(fill-in blank) annual rotation in and out ot the Illini conference. The triple-option could work if Lane just had a lot of humongous but athletic linemen that could help the offense hold the ball for nearly entire quarters.

@CPS Fan looking for good coaches,

Have you seen the size of the athletes of Lane's team? They look like jr high kids. They no longer have the Chris Kyles, Louis Trinca, or Laken Tomlinson type of players. Dr. Lobosco shut down athletes coming there. The coaches are spending all of their precious time teaching the basics instead of coaching skills

You don't need humongous linemen to run the triple option .Thats one of the reasons Lane is trying to use it.Last year Dunbar had 18 to 19 players on their varsity 8 of whom played both ways ,granted Lane was never going to win the game.Remember ,Lane is a selective enrollment school.

Dr. Lobosco does not shut down athletes from coming here. Look at her principal picks. A lot of her picks are thletes. Being a college prep school if you are dumb and an athlete you will not get into Lane. Simple as that. Wy bends the rules big time, lane Tech does not. That being said the football coach has to adapt to what he has. Coach offense is not working nor will it work. If I am an opposing team and I know that Lane never passes, I send my Db's up and stuff the run. Its not complicated. All the Rio haters can blame Rio but he did bring in 2 City Chamionships over the past 2 years. Proesell can not even make the city playoffs. Pretty sad. I am an alumni and not proud anymore to watch football and its not the kids. We have great kids.

Lane needs more catholic school transfers. Why pay 10K a year throwing your money down a rat hole so the Archdiocese can piss it away. Lane is free and 7th in the state in education. No brainer. Why go to a Catholic school makes no sense.

Many go to Catholic schools because sports are of the utmost importance to their parents. They choose Notre Dame because Lane's football team isn't good. They choose St. Pat's because Mather's basketball team isn't good. They choose Loyola because their football team is much better than Taft's team. Go to those schools football/basketball games and you'll see just how important those sports are to their communities

it doesn't matter about the size lane as so many nerds about 1/8 of the school population are atlethics so stfu...we don't play sulivan or senn at the varsity level you dipshit....dumb whitney scrub the score to the sophomore game was 14-7 so stop lying...cant wait still next season

    @2cents II

Um, don't need to twist what you're saying because you are, dumbass. You are the one who said that a school's enrollment should translate into state dominance. And now you are saying the opposite.

Its not the numbers, its the quality of the township's athletic program - especially from the feeder programs. Lane's part of the CPS and its poorly administered sports program. I am saying its not quantity its quality. So shut the fuck up with the numbers.

If you look at most of the teams schedules, you would see that many of them travel to compete with the suburbans schools. You may see a Shurz on that schedule, but rarely a Senn or Sullivan. Who you crapping?!

As far as good 1A programs, yes there are many who could not only beat Lane but other 3A schools as well.

    2011 State Day !
    Lane 4x8 8:16
    !A 12 team to make finals 8:25

    800M Run
    Lane 1:56 & change
!A last qualifying time for finals
    1:59 & change

    4x400
    Lane 3:25 & change
!A last qualifying time for finals
    3:32 & change

It this backing it up enough?

Walk the halls between classes at Lane and tell me there aren't any kids with size. There are plenty of students at LT who could give you any size O or D line you want.
There is no traction in that argument.
Smart kids are good football players, and the schools that send the most kids to the next level send smart kids, not dummies.
I am not saying every kid on the football team needs to be a rocket scientist, but football is as much a game of high speed chess with rage as anything else.
Why can GT run the option and LT can't? Why does LT have 4000 students, 70 kids on the football team and they can't get past 19 kids from Dunbar? Must be the kids are better athletes? Nope.
Dunbar has more talent? Nope.Better facilities? Nope. More kids and bigger kids? Nope.
Only one answer here - coaching.
DB has to adapt out of necessity. LT has it all and continues to blame everything and everyone else for their failure to put a playoff team on the field.

Dunbar has the facilities including a track and football field right behind the school. Dunbar is from the Bronzeville neighborhood that has decent elementary schools with decent park district programs. Athletes no matter what circumstances find a way to play sports. Dunbar has about 55-60 kids on their team.

If you look at the all time head to head match up between Lane and Dunbar, I'd bet Lane has beaten them about 60% of their games or more.It has only been recently that Dunbar has been overwhelming Lane in football. Dunbar will not stud players like Darvell Harris every single year.

There will be a time when Lane beats Dunbar on a regular basis. IT just has not been the last 2 -3 years.

Lane is just going through a down streak. They will get out of it and Lane football will be back.

Hey, I want to see LT succeed int he future as it has in the past in sports.
But, no other school has the quality and quantity of sports facilities of LT in CPS.
Recent is all that matter in sports. No one cares about what LT did in the last century, and the direction of the football program, based on the last few years, is not good for players and fans who want to see wins and some time in the playoffs. Heck, I am not talking state, I am talking about just getting close to being in the Prep Bowl.
As for Dunbar, if you have been to a game with them, the only way you get to 50-60 in the program is if you count the parents and coaches. They had 19 kids on the sideline when they beat LT last fall, and I was right there counting.
LT is a selective enrollment school, smart kids from all over, and the largest freshman class of any CPS school. More kids in that class than at Dunbar in total.
Dunbar is over half low income, a neighborhood school with limited funds and limited ability by parents to support sports financially.
Dunbar wins with fundamental execution and makes due with what they have, which includes some solid coaching.
    LT....makes excuses.

Plus, Dunbar has the big, fast athletic black kids, Lane has lazy, fat, unathletic white and mexican kids and Urkel type black kids.

Dunbar has coaches that want to be coaching inner city kids, Lane has coaches that would rather be at s suburban school, but, were blackballed.

    @Urkel,

You were correct until you threw in the coaches that were blackballed part.
