Julian Football is back!

Julian led by two exciting playmakers Dae Shaun Hurley(sr-QB- left) and DeMarlon Morris(sr- DB/WR-right) went from the Chicago conference last year to being tied with Fenger and King for the best conference record in the Illini Land of Lincoln conference with a 4-1 conference record. With a good coaching staff and a comitted players, Julian football is back.

In the 1980's, under coach JW Smith, Julian was a CPS football power. Julian had a winning record in the 80's with a .747 winning percentage under Smith and qualified for the state playoffs 6 times in the 1980's. Then after Smith left, Julian had a rough stretch. From 1990-2008 (18 years) Julian was not bad, they just weren't same teams as the Smith era. During that 18 year period, Julian was up and down. They qualified for the state playoffs 4 times during that span but suffered a winless season in 1998 and a 2-7 season as early as 2008.

Since 2009 Julian has progressively improved. They qualified for the state playoffs 3 years in a row now. They finished 6-4 and qualified for the state playoffs in 2009, finished 7-3 and won and won a Chicago Conference last year, and this year they finished tied with the best record in the Illini Land of Lincoln conference, beat rival Robeson in the CPS playoffs, and nearly pulled off an upset in the state playoffs.

Next year, will be a major challenge for Julian. They graduate stars QB Dae Shaum Hurley(sr), LB Ladelle Fleming(sr), and WR/DB Demarlon Morris(sr). Hurley has offers from several D1 schools including University of Illinois, Fleming verbally accepted an offer from NIU, and I feel Morris has Divison 1 playing ability. Morris is an all-city DB, with big play making ability.

[Hurley and Morris]

I got a chance to see Hurley and Morris play. Despite all the smack talk on Hurley, he is the real deal. Very athletic, seems much faster and stronger than last year. He really worked hard during the offseason and I could see him with the potential to be a starter at the Division I college level.

Morris is someone people don't talk about as much because Hurley is on the team. But I'll tell you what Morris is an offensive weapon. My opinion is that he needs some work developing at the JC or small college level and then take it from there. Definitely an underrated prospect that could develop into something more in a year or two.

Julian was fortunate to have two really good players in Morris and Hurley. These guys were difference makers for their team and I wish them luck in the future.
