Lane Tech Boys Varsity, Girls Varsity Repeat as City Champions
Lane Tech girls varsity are all giddy as they are called up te receive the team 1st place trophy.
Lane Tech swept the varsity races. The boys did not run their best race of the season but still easily took the title to 2nd place Mather. The girls had to fend off a Whitney Young team that finished only a few points behind Lane.
The key for Lane's boys was quality depth. In a year where the CPS is vastly improved from top to down, Lane had all 7 runners in the top 20. #1 runner, David Timlin(sr) was expected to challenge for the individual title finished a distant 4th to individual winner Jamison Dale(jr) of Jones. #2 runner Marcelo Burbano(jr) also had an off day as he was obviously not himself and finished way back from the lead pack where he was expected to finish. But he still finished in the top 8. Sophomore Jon Vara(so) finished 10th ahead of Mather sophomore Devi Tahiraj(so).
Lane girls took it's 2nd straight title in a close win over Whitney Young. #1 runner Joanna Podosek(so) came up big with a 2nd place winner. But i felt the key performance was Jackie Bynes. Bynes, running only her second meet of the year, finished in Lane's top 5. Bynes is a volley player.
Much much more coming soon...

Well run meet - good competitive races. As expected, a huge gap between Lane/Whitney in the girl's field and the big 4 in the boys field.
Lane 4 and 5 looked very strong - great run for Vara and a convincing win in the fastest boys race in a long time.
Jones 4 and 5 back pretty far - though the future looks bright for them, winning freshmen and sophomore races and returning 5 of their 6 varsity runners. Dale is an absolute beast - made a move at the mile and wasn't seen again.
Mather looked pretty solid all around. Whitney had a great pack behind Shan and went 1-2 in the sophomore boys race.
Northside - Rufino had a good aggressive run in the sophomore race - a little surprised Kafka and Grba were so far back.
Lincoln Park steps up and claims 5th. The much heralded (on CPSfan anyway) Curie team was a disappointing 9th.
Girls I believe Lane and Whitney might have taken every trophy - though the Kenwood girl had a convincing individual win
