The frosh-soph girls race traditionally kicks off the St. Patricks's Invite. This picture was taken 100 yards into the race.
Unofficial Top 3 teams
Frosh-Soph Girls- Team(1.9 miles?)
1. Whitney Young
2. Lane Tech
3. Northside College Prep
This picture was taken at about the 3/4 mile mark of the 1.9(?) mile race. The first thing any long time cross country fan would notice is the St. Joseph girl in the lead. I first noticed her warming up with her teammates. She had a very natural and powerful looking stride that stood out amongst her other teammates. I thought she was a varsity runner, but it bodes well for St. Joseph to have a runner like her at the lower level.
St. Joseph has always been known as a basketball school and I have never heard of stand out a cross country runner boy or girl come from that school. She eventually finished in 2nd place. The winner was the Whitney Young girl right behind her. I do not recognize her - she is probably a new runner. She had a great finishing kick. Definitely another prospect for the already rich Dolphins.
Another thing you notice in this picture is that there are a lot of Lane and Whitney Young colors. At this point Lane was in the lead for the team race. Whitney Young ended up keeping it's pack near the top and Lane kind of spread out a bit. It ended up being a convincing win for the Dolphin.
There's a reason why Lane and Whitney Young are consitently the best distance schools in the city for girls cross country - they have great frosh-soph teams.
