Northside Prep ran a 2 mile time trial on Wed. August 25th, to determine the varsity spots for the much anticipated St. Pat's Invitational on September 1. It was hand timed 2 mile run on the North Park College Track.
Here are the results, with the top 7 making varsity:
1. Erik Zuehlke (sr) - 10:27
1. Wesly Laytham (sr) - 10:27
3. Charlie Mesimore (sr) - 10:49
4. Simon Kafka (fr) - 11:04

7. Danny Sobor (sr) - 11:26
8. Ezra Edgerton(jr)- 11:29

Northside Prep will run their first meet of the season on September 1, 2010, where Lane Tech and Mather will be awaiting them. A St. Patrick's Invite complete preview will be coming soon.
A rough estimated 3 mile time for Northside could go something like this:
1. Wesley - 15:58
2. Zuehlke - 16:02
3. Mesimore - 16:25
4. Kafka - 16:50
5. Duffy - 17:15

Where's Melto? He couldn't make top 9 at least?

NCP girls had a 2 mile time trial. Top girl was 13:29, 2nd was 13:46.
I'd estimate their top 2 will run 3 miles at about 21 minutes. No disrespect but those are not the best times for NCP standards. That kind of time would be tough to make it top 25-30 in the CPS.
This is a rebuilding year for NCP girls and to be fair for all girls schools in the CPS.

"This is a rebuilding year for NCP girls and to be fair for all girls schools in the CPS."
Just because Northside girls may not be at the top standards, does not mean that all CPS girls are also rebuilding. There will still be great competition this year at the girls level and many girls have been working very hard this summer!

The guys are just so much more exciting because the competition at a decent level and there's so many competitors in the city, PLUS the big five schools are all close to each other this year.

The girls competition has been boring.
Here is how the top 10 in the CPS has looked like in the last 3 years (more of the same ol same ol this year)
1. Someone from Whitney Young
2. Someone from Whitney Young
3. Someone from Whitney Young
4. Someone from Mather/Morgan Park
5. Someone from Whitney Young
6. Someone from Mather/Morgan Park
7. Someone from Whitney Young
8. Someone from Lane/Jones/Payton
9. Someone from Lane/Jones/Payton
10. Someone from Whitney Young
In other words boring and predictable.
This year and the next 4 years will be more of the same.
Whitney Young on top, followed by avg teams that get destroyed by the suburbs.
Let's talk girls when track season starts.

Exactly and no offense to any girls it just gets redundant. But in all fairness what the WY girls do IS amazing. A TOP TOP level program from the city.
Boys the last few years it's always unpredictable and exciting, always new guys popping up and the competition is getting MUCH stronger every year.
I remember only 1-2 years ago barely anyone broke 10 in the 3200 or 16 in xc and now we have or will have double digit amount of runners doing so.

Wouldn't say all avg teams that get destroyed by suburbs. Jones girls last year were very competitive for
AA. 3rd in their sectional and not terribly far out of first.

Mac was having shin pain, so he was held out as a precautionary measure.
^wouldnt say
exactly, Jones is 2A. their varsity girls got 4th in the city, yet they still advanced to state because they were in a less competitive sectional. theyre making progress but compared to cps teams, theyre comparable maybe to the whitney young boys.

Agh, the age old mistake on this website. You cannot compare teams from different classes. I don't understand why people on this site can't get it. Yes, Jones girls were 4th in the city. Behind who? ALL 3A teams. Which means, yet again, they were competitive against the CPS, regional and sectional schools of SIMILAR size. For the millionth time on here, if you are a Lane, who has the 2nd/3rd largest enrollment in the STATE (check it on the IHSA site if you don't believe it), you will have more talent to pull from, hence the size and depth of their team. So really the argument of who's not competing well against suburban teams should start with them. They are bigger than 99% of the schools they face, yet their level of competitiveness STOPS at the city level.

Where do you get sub 16 off a 10:27 2mile? Are you stupid? I mean how fucking stupidd can you get? A sub 10 2mile translates into maybe a sub 16 3mile. And you cant give a rough estimate since they rran a track, not a real xc course

There's no rule that says oh THIS 2MILE = THIS 3MILE. stop being so rude and do you really have to drop an f bomb? just have an argument without being an ass.
besides who knows if they went all out, according to the article it seems like Wesley backed off to pull Zuelhke through so they would tie. And running 5:14 for 2 miles can easily translate over to 5:20 pace for 3 miles if an athlete is conditioned well.
Jeez I hope Laytham runs sub 16 just so you can feel like an idiot. Someone can run a 9:50 on a track and not break 16 on a 3mi xc course, it all depends on conditions and athletes.
Posted by: chill out | August 27, 2010 at 05:26 PM
Funny how you know so much on northside, what you on the team? And yes the athlete must be conditioned to run a good 3mile, but a double 5:14 for a 2mile is not a 5:20 for a 3mile cause it takes much more to run 3 then 2. And im sure laytham will run sub 16...but it will be late in the season unlike much more talented and conditioned runners like abe haji juan mendez oscar medina and the very close 16flat 3miler lucas beltran
