The team enjoyed a very good week of practice we call "Hell Week." It's basically a time period where the boys are given the most challenging workload of the season and all expected to perform. It's not a negative thing but instead a collective gathering of the team to bond for a common cause. We usually go to an overnight location for "camp" away distractions. This year we started a little later than normal but all is well. The annual Camp 5 Alive ended with our timed 6-miler. The boys started with a progressive three warm-up followed by another 3-miles that were timed. Lucas Beltran and Dylan Allingham immediately took charge with the opening mile in 5:35. The 3-7 pack chased well under 5:50. Beltran withstood several strong surges from Allingham before pulling away at 2-miles in 10:57. The rest of the pack ran smart but agressive through each 1/2 mile checkpoint. This was the best overall time trial in team history that goes back 6 years. For the first time, everyone broke 19:00!

NCP ran a 2 mile time trial at North Park College track.
Top 7 make varsity for St. Pats and get a special uniform.
official results will be available soon.
Lincoln Park is running a time trial at the end of August. Coach Troy is back and hopefully is going to get the Lions back roaring.
Lane looks good. Looks like Beltran a solid #1. #2-#7 is wide open. Orellana, Dylan looking good. Good to see Max back in the mix. Chronis, Elias, Bustamonte add depth and will have to fight to get to make top 7.
Lane will have a JV runner running in the 16's by the end of year.
Can't wait for St. Pat's.

Was there rest between the 3 miles out and the start of the time trial or it was a nonstop thing?
Solid results, surprised Timlin and Allingham aren't a bit faster right now though. Should be interesting to see Lane's top 5 at St. Pat's but they'll need to get the pack all running 16:1x soon.

^ it was nonstop

so they ran 3 miles first then did the time trial. That means if they went all out with a 3 miler in a race, I would conservatively subtract 20 seconds to those times. 5 faster than 16:41 with adjusted times.

yeah..no. taking off 20 seconds is ridiculous. if anything, doing 3 easy miles right before makes their times faster. your muscles are looser but 7:15 pace still isnt killing anyone. plus you're already rolling when the race begins. stupid conditions for a time trial.

Not sure if I captured it well in the article.
The time trial culminates a hard week of camp called "hell week" as stated earlier. No hazing involved- just makes you feel...
The 6mile time trial goes as follow:
3m progressive warm up 7:19, 7:13, 7:06 and then hit it for the final three miles that is timed.
Keep in mind the boys ran on Tues morn 6m and then Dunes trail and sand dune run of 9m in the pm That's why it's hell week with the short turnaround of runs and intensity.
Dylan and Timlin ran well as they are growing into cross country runners. Dylan is being weined off of a shorter miles since he is catching up from his track injury. Timlin is gaining miles gradually on his middle-distance running frame.

hey coach tony...where do you think the three guys who were excused fit into this group
Posted by: s | August 26, 2010 at 02:17 PM
In fairness to the team, they fit well. In that 2-7 range. But hopefully we can go 10+ deep and exchange guys for different races- keep everyone fresh.
Posted by: Coach Tony | August 26, 2010 at 02:29 PM
fair enough...will you be running a full team at st. pat's

I give my props to anyone who takes their team out to the Dunes. I'm driving one of my girls up there this Sunday from Champaign just for a workout.

To the poster S,
We will be running everyone at St. Pats. But we need to see where everyone is so we will mix and match line-ups.
Posted by: Coach Tony | August 26, 2010 at 07:57 PM
hey coach Tony, everyone will run at St. Pats. So some varsity guys will run JV and a soph like Marcelo will be running soph level instead of varsity?

To anyone addressing the poster "To Moon":
Don't associate him with Lane. I really don't think he is with us. Anyone here has the right to say whatever they want. If any of you ask any cogent questions about our program I will try and address them properly. I told Neil I will try my best in assistance in cleaning up some deception on the boards and limit some of the attack. Truth from fiction.
