In the year of the World Cup, soccer is king at Lake View.
However, Lake View's cross country team has managed to tap into that soccer talent. Current Lake View distance star Oscar Medina (sr) - above started out as a little freshman playing soccer before concentrating on cross country and track exclusively. He's developed nicely since then qualifying for state twice as an individual in cross country and then running a 4:29 1600 meter run at the state track meet last spring. Medina will be a serious class 2A all-state contender this fall.
In fall of 2009, Medina and Lake View was boosted by Eduardo Chave(jr-right). Chavez, the starting forward on the Lake View soccer team, played soccer the entire season before running his first cross country meet at the city championship. With barely any training Chavez finished a respectable 43rd out of 175 varsity runners - running 3 miles in 17:30.67. Two weeks later, Chavez finished 25th at the Jones sectional - running 3 miles in 17:19.82 on a rain soaked course. Chavez just missed the final state berth by a mere 11 seconds. A star was born. The last time I talked to Chavez, he said he may again play both cross country and soccer at the same season. Running a 4:46 mile in track has surely risen his stock. If he does run cross country, I fully expect Chavez to be a serious challenger to make it down state.
It seems like the next star duo cross country and track and soccer player is sophomore Juan Berumen. Like Chavez, Berumen said he will likely try the soccer/cross country double this fall. Berumen showed a lot of promise last spring at track having run a 5:10 mile at sectionals. "I also ran a 5k road race in the off-season" said Berumen.
If Lake View can somehow get their soccer players in sync with cross country, Lake View has the makings of a solid 1-2-3 combo at the top that is right up there with Jones in Class 2A CPS teams. Now, if they can only find a 4th and 5th runner? Maybe they can recruit a few more from the soccer team!

Highly doubt that they can run with Jones. People
Are going to rank them high again just like last year, only because of medina. And then they won't be able to field
a deep enough team. They weren't even close to Jones at sectionals last year.

Clearly a bunch of fake names posting. At least next time have half the brain to not post all within 5 min of each other. Or, let me guess, Mesimore, Beltran, Medina and Cuit were all hanging out together posting?
Between people like you and the Prosser complainers everyday, this blog has become an even bigger joke. Neil doesn't do anything to clean it up though because foolish comments or not, they make his site appear more popular.
