Robert Gregory (jr) of Simeon ranks as the #1 pre-season quarterback in the Public League.
Neilski's Top 2010-11 CPS Quarterbacks (year is their class as of the 2010-11 season)
1. Robert Gregory (6-3, 185lbs, jr) - Simeon
2. Juwane Pipkins (sr) - Robeson
3. Maurice Fleming (6-0, 175lbs) - Curie
4. Quincy Skanes (jr) - Hubbard
5. Mike Shewchuck (6-1, 160lbs, sr) - Taft
6. Daniel Cleveland (6-1, 215lbs, sr) - Al Raby
7. Tashaun Johnson (sr) - Harlan
8. Terry Baggett (6-0, 200lbs, sr) - Whitney Young
9. Deshaun Hurley (jr) - Morgan Park
10. Ahmad Bradshaw (so) - Brooks
10. Tyler Routhier (sr) - Lane Tech
Others
Randall Owens (6-0, 175lbs, so) - formerly at King, transferred to Kenwood
Jameel Carter (5-10, 145lbs, sr) - Uplift
Kejuan Bryant (5-10, 170lbs, sr) - Urban Prep
Jarvis Robinson (jr) - Phillips
Larry Howard (5-7, 165lbs, so) - Hubbard
Derrick Miles (6-0, 170lbs, sr) - CVS
Vernall Atwater (5-10, 165lbs, sr) - Schurz
Neil,
Kejuan Bryant should be in your top ten, by simple fact in that he has contributed 15 TDs a year for the last two years at Urban Prep. 3-Year Starter (Has been the only starter in the history of Urban Prep). Maybe you need a partner in assessing CPS talent, because its a lot for anyone to handle.

I see your point about Bryant. 15TD's a year for quarterback is impressive for any high school quarterback in a 9 game season.
One problem with Bryant is that Urban Prep plays in the lower tier Chicago Conference. They beat up Chicago Military Academy and played close games to DuSable and Uplift. Urban Prep lost to Phillips and Raby.
Bryant's 15 TD's aren't as impressive if he had played in the more competitive Illini Conference.
Bryant rates below conference rival Al Raby Quarterback Daniel Celeveland who at 6-1 215lbs has the size over Bryant. Plus, he led Raby to a much better season in winning conference and playing close with Morris in the state playoffs.
It would be hard to rate Bryant ahead of Harlan's Johnson, Bagett of Whitney Young, Hurley of Morgan Park, Bradshaw of Brooks, or Routhier of Lane.
I would not rate Bryant ahead of Tashaun Johnson
Tashuan Johnson has a scholarship offer to Wyoming and is more athletic. Bagett, Hurley, Bradshaw, and Routhier are all proven quarterbacks from proven programs in the more competitive Illini-conference.
I've personally seen and scouted 9 of the top 10 quarterbacks and I'm confident in their abilities.
This is a pre-season list. It could change. If you email me a link to some of Bryant's play (to evaluate him) and if he continues to improve, maybe I'll consider him a top 10 QB by year end.
Urban Prep has a developing program. Bryant has started all 3 years of the schools existence. Another good year will only help in the development of the Urban Prep program.

Randall Owens does not play for king, he transferred to Kenwood after his freshman year because he couldn't handle it here.
Posted by: JaguarPride | June 07, 2010 at 01:23 PM
Now that Owens is gone, who will be King's starting QB and what do you know of him?
Posted by: @ JaguarPride | June 07, 2010 at 01:32 PM
why is Routhier in the top 10?
Posted by: t | June 07, 2010 at 06:18 PM
Routhier is a tough guy.
He started most of the games last year for Lane and made few mistakes. He will almost certainly start this year for a Lane Tech team that will be vastly improved.
Routhier is a borderline top 10 QB. He probably should fit with the others category. All borderline guys who could break into the top 10 with a good year.
To start at Lane Tech at a school of that size and with that football tradition means that Routhier is good.
Plus Routhier will improve with the new coach at Lane. You will not see his passing much in the new run orientated option system.
A case can be made for the other guys to move ahead of Routhier. Personally I like Jarvis Robinson of Phillips. He is more mobile and athletic than Routhier and can even play running back. Jameel Carter of Uplift and Kejuan Bryant of Urban Prep are also solid.
I admit that I may because I've seen more Lane games than other games I put Routhier in the top 10. Like I said this is a pre-season list and could fluctuate.By season starts, someone no one has even heard of could easily make the top 10.

Our Quarterback is Kendall Harris he's also a pitcher for our baseball team, he played football for our far-soph last year and inly threw one pass on varsity and it was a touchdown
Posted by: JaguarPride | June 07, 2010 at 09:36 PM
I hope the coaches teach Kendall Harris how to pass. The Jags offense was one-dimensional last year with mainly a running game. I hear dem Jaguars are looking to rip conference this year. The only way to do it is wit an improved running game.
Posted by: Jaguar running game | June 08, 2010 at 06:47 AM
Neil, you are about right on with the top 4 on this QB list with the exception that I woulda place Quincy Skanes in the 3 and switched Fleming to 4.
Skanes will be in his 3rd year of running the Greyhound offense and has done well ever since playing grammar school ball witht he Vikings. With a little more maturity we are talking about at least a mid major scholarship for him. And running Elton's offense is not the easiest thing for a kid. He started as a freshmen and has taken them to the State playoffs every year.
Pipkins lead one of the most deadliest passing attacks around. We call Robeson a track team on cleats and Pipkins has many threats to pass the ball one being his twin brother. Stats are not a problem with the Raiders.
Robert Gregory is hands down the best since Double D at Morgan Park. He is a real treat to watch and with his maturity should take Simeon deep into the playoffs. A true division one prospect. Blessed with a Strong arm, speed and size Gregory should be the All CIty QB. (almost went to King).
Posted by: Truth | June 08, 2010 at 11:07 AM
yea we plan to be a pass first team this year, our coaches have been working with Harris and our receivers on an every day basis
Posted by: JaguarPride | June 08, 2010 at 01:34 PM
I would argue that Fleming should be at #2 and Pimpkins shoud be moved to #3. Fleming had 1780 total yds (160 ypg), 20 total td's (13 int's) and Pipkins had 1450 total yards (115 ypg), 21 total td's (13 int's). Fleming is a bigger QB. At the edgytim combine he put up better testing numbers than Gregory in everything other than the vertical.
Posted by: Pete Mickael | June 08, 2010 at 08:41 PM
Sorry, I meant pipkins. By the way, he is probaly a better all around player than fleming. But... this is the top 10 QB's not athlete.
Posted by: Pete Mickael | June 08, 2010 at 09:19 PM
Flemings numbers as a QB are really good, that cannot be denied. He can make a strong argument for #2 and maybe even #1. Everyone talks about Gregory. But Fleming is a more of passer than Gregory. In the long run Gregory is a better prospect due to his overall greater athleticisim, height, and postential, strong arm. Gregory is a 2-3 year project who could be a solid DI prospect and with the right coaching could develop into something seriously more.
As for Pipkins. His passing numbers are less than Fleming because for one Fleming has much better receivers than Robeson. Also, Robeson's offense is less pass orientated than Curie. Robeson uses Pipkins as another running back at the QB position. He can throw as well and is a much greater athlete.
It is close for the #2 spot with Pipkins and Fleming. Pipkins is being recruited as a DB for college.
Posted by: tie for #2 | June 09, 2010 at 08:41 AM
It will be interesting to see who will emerge as the number 1 guy. I do know that Gregory is a hot prospect and is getting some major attention. He is a D1 prospect and will go big time. He still has 2 more years. In his 1st year he has led Simeon to the City Championship beating both Fleming and Pipkins along the way.

Watch out for William Gibbs (6-1;175lbs, jr) of Calumet. Can pass, has good ht and size, will lead a very good Calumet team.

Westinghouse suffers it's first loss of the season 12-0 against pritzker despite controlling time of possession. Inability to score in the red zone haunted the warrior offense. In addition to a few questionable calls by the coaching staff led to the warriors loss. They hope to rebound against Rauner next week. Go warriors!! Keep your head up. Continue to practice and play hard. Dequan Smith had another stand out game. Eugenio Dejesus threw for over 200 yards Leroy Cook had a couple outstanding grabs. Go house!!

Westinghouse rebounds with a convincing win over winless Rauner with a 66-0 win. QB Eugene Dejesus throws for over 350 yards and rushes for 100yds. The Wesinghouse QB was responsible for seven touchdowns 5 passing and 2 rushing. Running back Marcus Morris ran for two touchdowns while catching two touchdowns. DE Dequan Smith had another big game for the defense recording 8 tackles for loss and 3 sacks to hold Rauner scoreless. This victory was total domination from the opening kickoff.

Robyn Poindexter is descent. He is only a Sophomore but only 5'6 with cleats on. What college would take a QB that small? Should take Julian out of the Chicago conference, and depending on which Illini conferene they go in he might have success.

Westinghouse Warriors come away with another win 22-12 over Comer prep. Dequan Smith had another impressive game recording 11 tackles 6 for loss one pass tipped and returned for a touchdown.
