CVS's Derrick Miles returns for his senior season and will likely start at quarterback.
Last Year's Stats
conference: Illini- Prairie State
record: 2-7 overall (2-3 conference)
playoffs: loss to Robeson 46-19, first round city playoffs
roster
2009-10 season results
L 14 52 11-3 Chicago (Marist)
L 6 22 8-4 Chicago (King)
L 0 42 4-5 Chicago (Lane)
L 6 47 10-4 *Chicago (Hubbard)
L 0 44 9-3 *Chicago (Morgan Park)
W 42 12 5-4 *Chicago (Lincoln Park)
L 22 24 4-5 *Chicago (Amundsen)
W 49 0 1-8 *Chicago (Steinmetz)
L 19 46 8-4 Chicago (Robeson)
CVS's 2009-10 season record of 2-7 is a bit deceptive. They played almost all the best teams in the CPS in Lane, Hubbard, Morgan Park, King, and Robeson- and they also played Marist from the Chicago Public League. As expected they lost all the games that they were expected to.
They did beat Steinmetz ad Lincoln Park rather handily. Their only disappointing loss was a 24-22 setback to Amundsen.
The good news is that CVS overcame a sub-par (for them) season and will play again in an Illini-conference. We don't know which one yet because of realignment.
Also, good for CVS is that CVS returns a complement of skill players including quarterback Derrick Miles (sr) and all-city running back Darius Smith (sr). Both are listed on my list of top CPS football players (top CPS QB's, top CPS RB's). Smith is also coming off a great track season in which he placed 2nd in the state in the 100 meter dash. So speed will be a premium at the running back position.
CVS also has an emerging defensive line prospect in 6-1, 260lb sophomore defensive end David Underwood.
CVS will need to replace all-conference linebacker Shyron Smith and all-conference Ferrari Shores - who both graduated.
I do expect CVS to bounce back from an uncharacteristic 2-7 season. This school is too big and has too long of a football tradition to stay down.
When the 2010-11 season schedules comes out (by around July 4th?), I'll be able to give a better prediction on their season record.

Dem CVS boys at the bottom pictures think they are tough actin like ganbangers. Let's hope they can show the toughness on the field. Losing to a 4-5 Lane Tech team 42-0 does not say highly of this team. Especially with the talent of Smith at running back.

A new coach hopefully brings forth a new begining. But as usual, I predict the CVCA Cavaliers will be subpar to say the least. Mainly because of undersized Illini players. Speed will be of the essence with Darius Smith but this isn't track. A little light in the ass and one big hit away from injury does not sit well for the Cavaliers. Hopefully, since Chuck Chambers losing ass has nothing to do with the program anymore these boys can go out and show something. They haven't been really good since the 89 team beat St. Rita in the second round of the playoffs.

The CVS teams with Juice Williams (former Illino QB) 5-6 years ago had the best offense I have seen for a CPS team. Juice and company would put up a 45 spot every game. Problem was defense gave up 46.
That was the best CVS teams since the 80's. CVS football (Dick Butkus alum) is not a joke. They play good solid football most years and belong in the Illini conference. They belong in that next tier of teams after Hubbards and Simeons. They are there with Lane, Dunbar, and Curie.

CVS is the city schools with the most city championships. Julian and Lane are tied for 2nd.
Everyone talks of Morgan Park, Hubbard, and Simeon. Those school are recent successes. Lane, Julian, and CVS have more historical wins.

Chuck chambers losing ass was the best this cvs had. And this has to be someone from 89 saying this stupid shit cause if u knew the history 89 was not his best team 94 was dumb ass. And in the early 90's was the one of the best programs in the city. If u knew coach chambers it's not about the cps it's who can contend in the state.

Where in the hell have u been? To say Chuck Chambers is the best CVS ever had is a slap in the face to the rich tradition of the storied football program. Patucky ( or how ever u spell is the best coach in CVS history).

John Potocki was fine, but anybody who says Bernie O'Brien wasn't the great Vocational coach knows nothing about the schoolor the program.
