On May 5th, about 800 Whitney Young students walked out of class and marched out of class and walked out of class to protest the upcoming CPS Budget Cuts.
The students ditched school. As a result, the kids now face Saturday detention.
According to the Tribune, this is what Whitney Young principal Joyce Kenner had to say about the decision:
"With every action there is a consequence," Kenner said. "Even though I believe their voices have to be heard, they have to be disciplined for their infractions."
Whitney Young High School Principal Joyce Kenner said students need to understand the repercussions for breaking rules.
I have to side with Kenner on this. The kids have a right to free speech. But at the same time, if they break school rules as Kenner said: "they have to be disciplined for their infractions."
