Hollis Hill (6-1, guard, class of 2010) of CVS
I spoke with Hollis Hill after his opening game loss to a good Rich South. He was so disappointed, that after the game, he ripped off his CVS jersey and ran into a corner disgusted that his team had lost. But moments after his display of disappointment, he calmed down enough and controlled himself.
Hollis is an intense player filled with passion. He uses his emotions to lift his play and the play of his teammates. Helped by his play and his leadership, CVS rolled off 8 straight victories after that opening season lost to Rich South - including victories over Lake Forest and Brooks.
Here is my take on Hollis. Hollis, at 6-1 is probably best at the shooting guard position. Fortunately, Hill has the luxury of having point guard Robert Hurd on his team. Hurd, can take on the role of passing the ball and get it int eh hand of Hollis. While Hill can drive to the basket, his best strength appears to be the outside shot. I saw him launch several three's during the game. Many of which were 1-2 feet past the three point stripe. He hit a good number of them. Apparently, Hill worked on his outside game during the off season. He can also create shots. I saw him dribble the ball past defenders and hit outside jumpers.
Hill has offers from Loyola University and the University of Wisconsin -Milwaukee. He will likely play point guard in college.
Hill says he wants to work most on assists this season.
"I pattern myself off of Brandon Roy and Chris Paul [of the NBA]", says Hill, "I spend 95% of my time playing basketball".
