Aaron Williams (6-6, F, sr) and CVS are ranked #9 in a loaded CPS
1. Whitney Young - defending 4A state champs
2. Simeon - loaded from top to bottom
3. Foreman - 4 DI players
4. Morgan Park - Blackshear has support from freshman
5. Brooks - young guns are maturing
6. Orr - super soph CJ Jones
7. North Lawndale - 3rd place in 3A last year
8. Curie - overlooked every year
9. CVS - need more than Hill and Williams
10. Farragut - a top 10 CPS team must include the Admirals
Others: Hyde Park, Marshall, Von Steuben, Lincoln Park, Crane, Harlan
Whitney Young will easily repeat as state champs. They will easily beat Simeon. Whitney Young has too much talent.
Foreman underachieves every year.
Teams like Morgan Park, Brooks, and Curie could surprise.
Orr is over ranked.
Why the F*** did you put Harlan on there?
Posted by: why Harlan? | December 01, 2009 at 01:16 PM
Harlan has a great basketball team. They are fast and got some serious hops.
Posted by: harlan fan | December 01, 2009 at 01:33 PM
Harlan has started the basketball season 3-2 with victories over Thonridge, Pekin, and Collins. Losing only to Peoria teams Woodruff and Manual. Harlan is 6th or 7th at best in teh competitive Red-South. The Red-South could be the toughest conference in the state with Brooks, Simeon, CVS, Morgan Park, Carver, Bogan, South Shore, Julian, Harlan, Fenger.
The top 4 teams of Brooks, Simeon, CVS, and Morgan Park can run with anyone in the state.

Whitney Young is a great talent, I think his going to repeat..

harlan has a new curling team

Watch out for an improved Mather team. 5-0 to start out the season winning the Clemente Tournament. Balanced team but Eddie Seda looks good. I hear he also high jumps for Mather and is looking to contend for city high jump champ this year.
Mather is in the Blue and not a Red team. But 5-0 is 5-0. Hopin they move up to the Red after this year.

What is the difference between "Blue" and "Red", and why would you want to leave "Blue"?
Posted by: What is the difference between Red and Blue? | December 02, 2009 at 10:49 AM
Go Blue!
Posted by: Go Blue! | December 02, 2009 at 10:59 AM
No XC program (Ok except maybe for York) has front runners in every class. Look at Mather this year. No one can name a single senior, but boy do they have sophs and juniors. Northside Prep's sr and jr class are really strong, but no one talks about their soph class. Jones has great sophs and freshman, but where are their sr's and jr's. Same with Lane, sophs and freshman are solid, but jr class is sub-par for Lane. You could blame Jones for not developing Silva and the rest of the jr class, but he did develop Jimmy Orellana.
Bottom line, no school has front runners in every class.
The sign of a good program is the effort you put in recruiting and developing your runners. Northside, WY, Lane, Mather all do a really good job in recruiting and developing. It's just taht some year they get a Kulayfi Haji or a Ivan Coronel and some years they don't.

red conference is tougher
Simeon, Whitney Young, Brooks, and all the top programs are in the Red.
First place blue team at end of season goes to Red next year.

Ok. Here is what everybody wants to know. When do Harlan and Lane Tech meet for the first time this track season?

On That note, Who will be the Top Five Track Teams in CPS this Year?
Posted by: Top Five | December 02, 2009 at 08:26 PM
Harlan will be at the Mather Invite. That is the only meet that I know of they run into each other before City.
Posted by: Harlan vs. Lane Tech | December 02, 2009 at 08:54 PM
1 lane
2 morgan park
3 harlan
4 mather
5 wy
Posted by: boys top 5 | December 02, 2009 at 09:47 PM
1. Lane
2. Harlan
3. MP
4. WY
5. Mather
I can see Harlan win it all though. I really don't know if WY is any better then Mather though.
After that I think there should be a lot of improvement from last year. I see NCP and Payton going at it for 6-7. And then Robenson, Kenwood, Lakeview, Urban Prep for 8-10.
And hey Jones is a prep school so you figure it is only matter of time before it gets up there so might as well throw it in there with the 8-10 contenders.

Harlan may have its best team in school history. They are loaded in every event except the shot put and discus, 3200, and Pole Vault. But they are working on the shot and discus. The Frosh/Soph 4x800 team could go sub 8:00 by the end of the season. No kidding.
Posted by: harlan fan | December 02, 2009 at 10:38 PM
they don't even have the best runner in the 400/800/1600/3200
Posted by: common | December 02, 2009 at 11:01 PM
u can also add 110h/300h/100/200.
they might win one or 2 relays.
Posted by: nothing left | December 02, 2009 at 11:06 PM
harlan fan, how can we take you seriously when you said that the frosh/soph 4x800 could go sub 8:00.

Mather boys varsity team is now a stellar 6-0 after pounding Taft 55-37. Mather is in the Blue, Taft is a Red team. If Mather keeps going this way, they will be in the Red. Mather was led by Eddie Seda who had about 14 points. Seda is also a high jumper on Mather's track team. Some say Seda could compete for the city title in the high jump.

Not really sure why you did not include Hyde Park in the top 10. Hyde Park has Class of 2010 Fabyon Harris is back on the board, and got off to a strong start to his senior season in Hyde Park's season opener on Tuesday night. Harris rates as one of the top Class of 2010 basketball prospects in the state of Illinois.
Harris, a 5'9" point guard, opened his senior season on Tuesday night by scoring 20 points, including four bombs from behind the three-point arc in leading Hyde Park to a win over Chicago Washington.
Since decommitting from Northern Colorado, Harris has had a steady stream of schools show interest, and pick up on his recruiting trail including UCLA, Niagra, Nevada, Baylor, Lamar, Wichita State, San Diego State, Portland State, Northern Illinois, Colorado State and East Tennessee State.
Hyde Park also has 6'8 power forward Phillip Jackson. Jackson should be DI prospect

So When it Comes to Relays, Harlan will still be suspect because before last year, Harlan Falcons didn't exist in Track and Field, and I think they will do fairly this year but they lost a couple of guys and now can do well in some events. Also What do you think of Urban Prep this year. Think they may be any good? I seen some of their athletes working hard this summer running USATF, and Junior Olympic National participant Israel Durley ran 15.3 and 51.4 at Zephyrs Meet at Proviso East.
Posted by: Top Five | December 03, 2009 at 10:38 PM
Harlan swept all four relays at sectionals and placed at state in the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400 with at least one alternate on each relay due to injuries. This year they will place in all four.
Posted by: harlan fan | December 03, 2009 at 11:38 PM
Harlan will have to show me something during the indoor season. I think at city the first 3 spots will be the same as last year with in a tight contest for 5th against Mather.
Posted by: Mr.Q | December 04, 2009 at 12:25 AM
To "Top Five", you mentioned that Israel Durley ran 15.3 and 51.4 at Zephyrs Meet at Proviso East. Can you give me any links of results to prove it?

All those 400 times were bogus. They didn't even put them in the results until the Tuesday after the meet. Girls too. Zephyrs are a bunch of cheats.
Posted by: Bogus | December 04, 2009 at 09:46 AM
Well I'm not Jumping on Israel Durley's Band wagon, but The results are there. I think he worked hard this summer! And I agree with "Mr. Q" Harlan has only one season under there belt in the 2A class. They really gotta get more there!
Posted by: Top Five | December 04, 2009 at 09:53 AM
sorry, times are correct. don't be a hater.
Cameron is the most gifted 400m runner in the CPS
Posted by: haters | December 04, 2009 at 11:01 AM
51.86 at the sectional on 5/21 to 48.97 on 6/20. Sorry, Cameron is good, but not 48.97 good. A nearly 3 second drop in time for an already good 400 runner? You don't drop that kind of time in a month unless you're on something. I don't think he's on something.
Look at all of the 400 times- boys and girls. 99.9% of the high school aged runners ran personal bests at that meet, some super incredible PR's. If you remember that meet, they didn't have results until the following Tuesday- 3 days after the meet!! Those times are bogus. None of those kids have run that fast before then, nor have they run that fast since.
You can say all you want that those times are correct, but deep down you know the truth.
