Gregory McDowell (sr), all-conference quarterback from Orr.
1. Simeon - Prep Bowl and CPS Champs. Gave close games to Mt. Carmel in the state playoffs and St. Rita in the Prep Bowl. Return their top offensive weapons stud QB Robert Gregory and running back Horatio Banks. Will be ranked #1 in the CPS to start the season next year. Simeon has the best line play in the CPS.
2. Hubbard - City runner-ups. Only one of two CPS schools to advance to second round of state playoffs, losing a close game to Belvidere North. Starting quarterback Quincy Skanes is only a sophomore. Combine Skanes with really good sophomore team and Hubbard should be fine the next few years.
3. Morgan Park - Beat Brother Rice to open season. Also beat Hubbard and Simeon during the regular season, largely behind senior QB Daron Brown. Only one of two CPS teams to advance to 2nd round of state playoffs. Sophomore DeShaun Hurley appears to be the heir apparent to Brown. Some say he could be just as good if not better than Brown. Morgan Park will need to reload after losing lot's of players to graduation.
4. Robeson - Another solid season for CPS state semi-finalist- giving city champion Simeon all it can handle. Won conference....again! Robeson will return junior quarterback Juwane Pipkins- one of the top QB's in the city after Robert Gregory of Simeon.
5. King - 2nd to Robeson in conference. This is a one of the top rising football programs in the CPS. You will hear more about King football in the next few years. Word on the street is that the top CPS elementary football players want to head to King. To move up to the next level, King will need to work on a few things like their passing game and getting more of their kids academically eligible.
6. Curie - 2nd to Simeon in the Illini-Red Bird Conference- including victories over Dunbar and Lane. Curie's hopes next year will be on teh development of quarterback Maurice Fleming. He is only a sophomore. Curie returns almost it's entire line.
7. Lane Tech - After winning city last year, a disappointing year for the Indians. Finishing an uncharacteristic 3rd in conference, missed state playoffs, and getting knocked out in the first round of the city playoffs to Hubbard 33-0. Lane will have to replace it's starting running back, starting quarterback, and two of it's top lineman all-stater Laken Tomlinson (Duke) and Louis Pasat-Trinca (Iowa).
8. Al Raby - This could be the best of the Chicago Conference teams -winning with an undefeated 7-0 record. Al Raby surpised the heck out of everyone -including myself losing only by a score of 16-9 to traditional power Morris in the first round of the state playoffs. I'm looking forward to see how Raby does in the Illini conference next year.
9. Bogan - Undefeated regular season in the Chicago Windy City Conference - including victories over Julian and suburban Tinley Park. Bogan moves up to the Illini-conference next year.
10. Mather - Mather wins the Chicago Big Shoulders conference - including a 34-13 victory over 8-2 Taft. Mather may have the top athlete in the city in all-everything Ameen Solebo. Solebo is an all-city football player, city runner up in wrestling, and city shot-put champion in track.
Others - Taft, Julian, Dunbar, Foreman, Brooks, Orr, Harlan
Watch out for Urban Prep...with FBS DT recruit Mason Fuller

Morgan Park should be ranked higher than Hubbard

How did Lane Tech fall from first to seventh in one year?

Everyone graduated.

How can you rank King before Curie. Curie's only CPS losses were to Simeon. In 2 games Simeon's highly touted offense scored 1 TD against Curie. Yes, King went further in the CPS playoffs, but the seeding is based on conference finish and overall record. Kings schedule was much weaker than Curie's considering Curie played 2 teams in your CPL top 10, Bolingbrook, and TP Andrew (both made 8A playoffs).

Curie falls apart in the big games, thats why King is ranked higher.
Posted by: Curie | November 30, 2009 at 10:43 AM
Curie was in the same conference with Simeon, they should be ranked higher.

King is better, and Neil has it right.

Curie 24 Kenwood 18
Bogan 56 Kenwood 0
Bogan deserves to be in the conversation with Curie and Lane. Maybe not last year but this year they do.
Posted by: Bogan 9-0 | November 30, 2009 at 01:52 PM
Curie 28 Lane 21
Curie 42 Brooks 0
Curie 16 Dunbar 12
Simeon 20 Curie 13
I'm not sure Bogan can beat Lane, Brooks, and Dunbar like Curie did this year. Also Curie lost to city champion Simeon only 20-13.
2008 score Lane 43 Bogan 12
Bogan will move up to the Illini next year, so we'll see how good their program is after their seniors graduate. I'm still not sold on Bogan, until they prove something in the Illini-conference.
Bogan maybe could have beaten Lane this year. It was a down year for Lane. I agree with you they should be in the conversation. That is why Bogan is within 3 spots of Curie and 2 of Lane.
It's a shame the CPS does not have a Chicago Conference playoff. I would have loved to see Bogan play against teams like Al Raby and Taft.

I think the games would all be fun to watch. I don't know how a team can go to state as a 1 seed and not be invited to the city playoffs. I think the rule should be top 2 from each chicago conference gets invited to the Public League playoffs.

I'm glad that arrogant fat ass is finally out of Notre Dame. I hope no CPS players consider going to Notred Dame. Robert Hughes a current junior at Notre Dame has been a bust there. After being the top running back in the state of Illinois when he was a senior, Hughes could have played at any school. He made the poor decision of going to Notre Dame. The supposed offensive genious in Weiss never developed Hughes to what he was capable, Hughes is not a bust as much as I blame Weiss for not making him a better QB.
ALso the way he handled Demetrius Jones of Morgan Park was a complete joke. He promised Jones a chance at the starting QB. Instead, he anointed Jimmy Clausen as the starting QB, only teh second game of the season in Clausen's freshman year. Jones ended up transeferring to Cincinnati where he sat 4th on the depth chart. Cinci has two NFL draft pick type QB's in their system, so Jones had to move to linebacker his senior and last year.
Jones and Hughes, after being promising players out of college have both have been deflated due to Weiss.
NO CPS KIDS TO NOTRE DAME!

Top 1 from Chicago conference should goto state. Top 1 at the minimum or maybe even top 3 should go into a separate Chicago Conference playoffs.
Like I said it's a shame teams like Mather, AL Raby, Bogan, and Julian have their season ends after teh state playoffs and get no chance at all at a city playoffs.

www.secondcitycop.blogspot.com is reporting the Simeon football and COACHES caused $10,000 worth of damages to a Soldier Field locker room after the Prep Bowl.....BTW: If anyone that watched the game on TV or went to the game noticed, the CPS security guards only worked the Simeon sidelines, stands, and side of the field. While, St. Rita side did't have any Security whatsoever

I feel it wasn't fair that Bogan and a few other schools didnt get a chance to go to the city playoffs. I feel like they could have been good competition for teams like simeon, morgan park, hubbard, and robeson. If you noticed Robeson beat Julian 40-6 in week 1. Bogan also beat Julian 42-12. Talented qb Kareem Adewole and receiver Emmanuel Bibbs could have made a run for city.
Posted by: Horatio Banks | December 02, 2009 at 10:40 AM
It makes no sense at all. I mean why even play the games, if your not even going to be allowed to participate in the playoffs? What is the purpose of playing?
Posted by: Bogan Football | December 02, 2009 at 10:47 AM
Bogan and Al Raby were undefeated and got knocked out the 1st round in state. Its like it was waste of a perfect season.
Posted by: Horatio Banks | December 02, 2009 at 10:56 AM
How did emmanuel bibbs from bogan not make all city at receiver? Ive seen the receiver Jasper from Simeon play and he is faster, but as an all around receiver Bibbs is better hands down.

King is better then Curie this year. King Played harder teams than Curie did this year. 4 of the 6 Lnad of Lincoln conference teams made the playoffs. 3 of the 4 went to 2nd round in CPL playoffs.
Break Down:
King has a better offense line. With that one guy Gregory McKee who is an amazing tackle and got an offer from Ohio State & Wisconsin and Jamie Keatin guy who was the right tackle and gotten offers from NIU and WIU. Then you have that whole line that is over 6'2 and 250lbs.
That line also credits the running backs that Devon Robinson had over 1000 yards rushing and Adam Freely got over 600 yards rushing, with other backs having a combine of 450yards running leaving that team with 2050 rushing this season and still able to produce good recievers.
Then you talk about recievers, King had 1 All-City Reciever/Saftey
Vinnie Bobbit who have gotten offers and an All-State reciever Willie Allen as a SOPOHMORE!
Curie does has a better quaterback however not more yards then Kings Jeremy Willimas quater back because of the recievers they have.
Defense Wise King was unstoppable there was 2 games in were king were not able to keep their whole teams due to grades and that is hard to believe because their "College Prep Status" Meaning their is some fishing recruiting going on however their defense really stop many teams from scoring high on them.
Curie Boast their wins against Lane, Brooks, Dunbar, and Kenwood but lets be serious. if any of those teams accept lane comes into the Land of Lincoln conference they wont be Robeson, King, Harper, Marshall or Harlan. Ill give them the win against Manely.
So you have to look at it from all aspects. King Probably should have went close to the semifinals and state playoffs. They lose to Prarie Ridge 20-16 and then PR went all the way to the semi finals blowing everyone else out after that.
So you can now see why they are better and ranked high than Curie

King a tougher schedule than Curie? You can't be serious. Curie played Bolingbrook, TP Andrew, Warren, and Simeon twice. Only 3 teams from the Land of Lincoln conf made the state playoffs (including King).
I will agree that Kings O-line is better. Curie's WR's were the top duo in the city. Sam Altman had 41 catches for over 500 yards and 7 TD's and he was 1st Team All-City (he missed 4 games with injury). Devante Miller had 34 catches for over 400 yards and 6 TD's.
Curie's D gave up 1 offensive TD to Simeon in 2 games. Something St. Rita couldn't do in 1 game. DE James Adeyanju had 16.5 sacks and played great against Tomlison (Lane, Duke), Ebelle (Simeon, Arizona), and Lenkiewicz (Andrew, Minnesota), so I think he would have faired well against McKee.
Compairing the 6A playoffs to the 8A playoffs doesn't hold any weight. 8A is much tougher. In addition, Kings 2 CPL playoff victories were against Amundsen and Orr, not exactly the cream of the crop. Amundsen was 4-5 and Orr got beat by Brooks who Curie smashed. Sir, your arguement has holes in it.
Posted by: Mac Danzig | February 08, 2010 at 01:30 PM
Just doing a little additional research King's opponents were 64-63 overall while Curie's opponents were 64-51. King played 1 more game than Curie did. Take away the last game King played (hubbard) and their opponents record is 54-59. Yes you are right, King played a tougher schedule.
Posted by: Mac Danzig | February 09, 2010 at 01:08 PM
King is not the King yet in the city. King is improved, I'll give you that. One dimensional team running the ball all day long. It will work against Orr, not when you play Robeson.
My opinion is that Curie will beat King on any given day. Curie is more balanced and they did beat Lane. I can't see King getting past Robeson in conference play.
King does not get a big enough crowd to it's games. I've seen south side schools Morgan Park and Simeon draw folks. Brooks brings more people than King.
The players sitting out to academic problems against Hubbard is a major concern. King is a college prep, they gotta do better than that. Brooks is a south side college prep and they dont; bring no where near the same academic issues.
King is better. At this point King is not King.

Look out for rising Morgan Park QB Andre Newell. The freshman started on Morgan Park's sophomore football team and is expected to challenge for graduated Daron Brown's varsity starting quarterback spot.
Posted by: Look out for Newell | March 19, 2010 at 10:01 AM
Morgan Park will be young next year. But they are returning a few starters. Both corners,a linebacker, and the stud freshman d-line who played big minutes towards the end of the season. They will reload as usual, look foward to seeing some new but old faces next year on the defensive side of the ball. Offense will be straight, spurlock will do what needed to win
