There will be a new all-weather track and field turf on the west side of Chicago. In collaboration with organizations like the Chicago Bears, the City of Chicago, and the Academy of Urban School Leadership, the brand new field turf and track has been built at Orr High School. The new regulation sized football field and track is called Rauner Field. A new field dedication and first football game will be played this Saturday when Orr takes on Wauconda High School.
The repercussions of this new Field will be tremendous. For one, the CPS will have another football field to play games. Currently, west side schools (maybe 20 of them) - all have to share a few stadiums to play their games. They share Hanson, Lane Stadium, Stagg, and Rockne.
Secondly, this track is the only all weather track on the west side. So you may see more track meets in the city using this new facility.
Also, the city will be able to enhance it's schedule a bit and make it more attractive for suburban schools to play in the city. When Lane Tech opened it's new track, Plainfield North High School ran a meet at Lane Stadium. That was the first time Plainfield North has ever run a track meet in the city. WIth Wauconda playing Orr, that is the first time as far as I know that Wauconda has played a football game in the city.
Progress!

Good, a public school not named Lane Tech will have its own field. That's the sign of progress.

Actually, Lane doesn't own Lane Stadium.

But guess who is the only school that practices at Lane Stadium. DePaul and Lane Tech. So it is practically a Lane only field. Plus all Lane football games are on Friday night, prime time. All other schools like Payton and Kelly that use Lane stadium are relegated to Thursday afternoon games at 3:30pm - with only 25 people in the stands.

Haha, yeah, Lane plays the martyr quite well. "Woe is us...this beautiful track in our backyard... sometimes we have to wait a few minutes to use it."
