Top 10 Public League Football Pre-Season Rankings
The Whitney Young Dolphins are out to prove that their 2007 conference championship was not a fluke.
Is it ever too early to talk about football. Official high school football practice is a mere few weeks away. With that in mind, I bring you the www.LaneTechFan.com pre-season football rankings for 2008.
1. Morgan Park- The Mustangs are dropping down a class this year from 7A to 6A. Plus they have the number one player in the state in lineman Craig Drummond. There is talk in the southwest side of at least a state semi-final appearance.
2. Hubbard- I don't know how the Greyhounds do it. But every year, these guys just somehow manufacture talent. They play in the toughest conference in the Public League the Illini Prairie North where their only loss was to Morgan Park
3. Simeon- The Wolverines have proven they are a much more than a basketball school. Their football team finished 2nd in the city. That is better than their basketball team.
4. Dunbar - Dunbar had a down year last year with a 3-6 record, but this is one of the better coached teams in the city and they are always solid.
5. Lane Tech - Laneites have felt somewhat disappointed with their team's performance since the 2004 city championship team. Especially after finishing 3rd in conference last year. This team has lot's of question marks but the team has grown since last year and could be ready to relive some of it's past glory.
6. Curie- The Condors broke put big time last year with a 4th place city finish. Can they duplicate last year's magic without the services of graduated all-city QB Keith Lewis? You'll find out quickly in Week1 - when Curie faces Mt. Carmel at Soldier Field.
7. Whitney Young- Whitney Young surprised the world by taking the Illini Red-Bird conference. It likely won't happen again this year due to heavy graduation losses and a need for more players.
8. Manley- The Illini Heartland conference champions should be a favorite to win conference again.
9. CVS- Another dangerous team from the Illini Prairie State conference. A regular season contest versus Lane Tech will immediately show where they stand.
10. Julian - They won the Chicago Windy Conference with an undefeated record. They move up to the Illini Prairie State Conference where they will face the likes of Morgan Park, Simeon, and Hubbard. Good luck!!
