1.Be ready to answer every phone call - when the opportunity calls, you have to be ready to answer it. You gotta keep you phone handy and available at all times. Letting the call goto voice mail, is almost a death sentence for the opportunity. With so many other viable candidates, most recruiters will rather hand up and goto the next person then leave a voice message.
2. Be ready to answer every email ASAP - Treat every incoming email like a phone call. It must be looked at and replied to right away, or risk losing the opportunity.
3. Put your resume in the body of the email and as an attachment. When applying for an opportunity, make it simple for the other person receiving your application. Some people like to open up word attachments of resumes, others don't. Why not give them both options by sending your resume as an attachment, and copy and paste it as part of your resume.
4. Apply right away- As soon as an opportunity, opens apply for it right away. Don't wait. Make your resume the first resume. The deeper you are in the queue, the least likely your resume will even be opened.
I think the first two items are the best tips here, Neil. You may have the best credentials, and you may be able to send your resume to all the employers out there. But if they won't be able to reach and hear from you, you won't get that job. So it's really important for you to let the employers feel that you want the job and you deserve it by keeping your lines open and responding to them diligently.
