I get calls every day from recruiting firms trying to solicit business for their firms. They all look alike, sound, alike, and talk alike. They all have a name like Advantage Recruiting or Talent Resources Executive Search. It seems like they all hire 20 something sales people with the same sounding voices and use the same phone scripts. If I view recruiting agencies like this then I'm sure a whole lot of other people do also. In other words, recruiting agencies are becoming almost like a commodity. It doesn't really matter who you buy from because they are all alike.
If you are a recruiting agency, how do you prevent this? Do what Seth Godin says and be remarkable. You can't be like everyone else. If you do what compelling reason would someone want to buy from you?
